Excellent. Beautiful boutique hotel. Terrible Internet signal but that's common in Latin America.

I love the Josephine!

Posted Jul. 28, 2012 on Hotels
After spending 7 nights at the Josephine I was sad to leave. It sits on top of a hill in a park-like setting 4 blocks from the beach. The decor is traditional with modern touches incorporating pops of pastel into a largely white-on-white palette. The public spaces are lovely: a deck with a view of the sea, a barbeque area and a lounge with comfy sofas and, on cold nights, a fire in the fireplace. The staff was helpful, kind and personable. Though my husband and I speak little Spanish and the staff speaks little English all our requests were met with warmth and good humor. The breakfast is elegant and abundant served on lovely old china. Maria greeted us every morning with warm croissants and a warmer smile. One day she cut a bouquet of camilla blossoms from the garden and put them in our room. Rooms are small by American standards but have comfortable beds, a modern bath and plenty of hot water. The only issue was that the armoire partially blocked the heat from the heater, which resulted in warm clothes but a chilly room. It is probably best to have a car if you stay at the Josephine. Cabs and buses are inexpensive and convenient and we did walk to the Port and back one day -- but it was a long haul. It is a about a mile to Punta Shopping and the few restaurants around there, but a car would definitely give one more flexibility. The price for a mid-winter stay was extremely reasonable. All in all it was a great experience and I can't wait to go back.

Posted Nov. 11, 2012 on Hotels
