Avis Charming bayou-side cottage perfect for a Cajun Country retreat

This is a defamatory and retaliatory review from an irate guest trying to get a free stay. For peace of mind, here is a line by line response: Pictures, 3rd bedroom, heat — We’ve added a desk, fenced in yard, a bunk bed, and a few small bonuses, everything it remains the same as the pics. This was a very lovingly and meticulously remodeled cottage originally built in the 1940s. We transformed a storage area into the largest bedroom. Everything was done with the highest level of care and consideration for guests’ needs, and YES, this new space does have Heat and AC. Mouse dropping / roaches: — we had evidence the pest were actually attracted into the home by this guest, but we still offered immediate refund and option to not stay so we could resolve the issue right away. They insisted on staying against our recommendation. The next day, they asked about refunds, and we asked VRBO to guide the cancellation process. Considering they had just slept 5 people and 3 dogs in our place, the refund VRBO offered was a solid compromise for the remaining nights, and we didn’t hesitate to agree to extend it to this guest and give a special credit on top of that. Trip insurance — unlike other platforms, VRBO does not offer protection for owners or guests within their base fees. After multiple horrible instances losing thousands in repairs, we caved to VRBO’s recommendation and now require the minimum trip insurance. This protects both parties when unexpected issues come up, and how much is protected is based on how much coverage is purchased (we wish it were easier). We spent hours advocating on behalf of the guest for options from VRBO, and we even extended special credits beyond what they offered. It’s clear that this guest’s goal was to get a free stay out of us and VRBO, and when that didn’t work out for them, they defamed our home and retaliated against us by posting this false negative review.
