Dear Mr. Scala. Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. We are very pleased to hear that our staff made your stay pleasant and you enjoyed our services to the fullest. Roatan is home to a small insect called a “sand fly”. It is believed closely related to an insect known in the US as a no-see-um. In our experience they are very sensitive to OFF! One spray in the morning and one when coming out of the water, usually keeps them away all day. We provide OFF! As part of our welcome amenities at check in and are happy to provide more upon request. They tend to show up when conditions on the beach are wet and cool, which is normally around November to early January. During that time we also fog twice a day with a bio-gradable botanical repellent if conditions indicate they may be on the shore. As advertised, our shore line is roughly 900 ft long. The Eastern and Western thirds are sand, but the center third consists of mostly coral fragments and shells, and is rough in its natural state. For this reason, we recommend our guests wear water shoes as appropriate. The Turtle Grass or Sea Grass is a nursery for many sea species including baby barracudas, baby turtles, sea horses etc. The sea grass grows and shrinks as sea conditions change there was more during your stay than average, however we hope you also noticed the number of small sea creatures in there natural habitat. As you leave the shore line there is a section of the beach with is pure sand underwater, and as you get deeper you will find again more turtle grass. Our staff is happy to point out sections with pure sand. Our guests can also take the kayaks, jet-ski, or boats to enjoy the clear water and sand just inside the deep water reef just minutes away. Dear Ms. Osorio, We are sorry to hear your experience did not meet your expectations. We have reviewed your comments with our full staff, and will be working to make sure these issues do not occur in the future. We do have a few clarifications on some of the points you raise. First, since opening, Casa Vista Verde has charged actual electric consumption, at cost. The reason for this is because we have extensive amenities including multiple air conditioners, 6-person spa tub, walk-in freezer, etc. which are all available to our guests during their stay, and some guests use these extensively, others not at all. This is clearly specified on both our VRBO listing, and on our contract, which you agreed to prior to making your reservation through VRBO. This is also pointed out in your reservation confirmation, sent within 24 hours of making the reservation. Casa Vista Verde is located on the ocean in the tropics, and things wear out at an accelerated rate. Before every checkin, we test run all air conditioners, boats, vehicles, and other important equipment, but to minimize guest disruption, we do not normally do this during a guest stay, instead focusing on responding quickly when notified of a problem. Our records indicate first notice of a problem with the AC at 7:27am, and confirmation from you that the system was working properly again to your satisfaction at 4:37pm the same day. Regarding the golf cart, there was an accident caused by an underage/unauthorized driver in the group immediately preceding yours, which left it undriveable. We attempt to communicate news as quickly as we can, however in this case we were not able to get the diagnosis complete before your checkin day. As a substitute, we offered the RTV with driver on call 24 hours at no charge, which we thought a reasonable solution given the circumstances. We are sorry we could not communicate this faster, or provide a replacement cart to your satisfaction. Regarding our beds, you are correct - we have a mix of full and queen beds, as clearly specified on our VRBO listing. We will also be inspecting all beds to check for noise, and will make repairs / replace as necessary. Part of our checkin procedure includes making sure each phone is loaded with 100 lempiras (roughly two hours) worth of phone time. This also shows verified prior to your arrival, according to our records. The phones do not show any attempted calls the first day of your stay, so perhaps there was a service problem where you were calling from. If our guests have any trouble using the phones, our staff is always happy to demonstrate upon request. We don't advertise snacks or a welcome platter, but we do mention the availability on our sample menu/meal planning email, sent a few weeks before arrival. To avoid waste, we don't prepare food unless requested by our guests. Your response indicated certain meals for your stay, but the welcome platter was not indicated, so one was not prepared. When something is not up to standards, we try to rectify the situation as soon as possible, with minimal guest disruption. Regarding the window replacement, the window had been previously removed for repair, leaving the laundry room exposed to the weather. When it was ready to reinstall, it appears our manager attempted to locate you at breakfast, was unsuccessful, and spoke to someone else in your group for authorization to have the window replaced that afternoon. The replacement itself took less than two hours and did not involve work in guest areas, so we tried to balance the minimal disruption against potential extended weather exposure. Based on your comments it appears we did not handle this well, so we will try to be more mindful of guest impacts in the future. Because your reservation and payments were made through VRBO, refunds are handled the same way. Your request for the missing guest refund was not made until after your check out and VRBO invoice was closed, which resulted in some confusion with VRBO in how to handle. Our VRBO account records indicate the refund was debited and sent on September 22nd, 4 days following request. If you have still not received it, I would suggest contacting VRBO.
