A restful relaxing holiday.

Excellent 3 level property, well equipped with everything one would need for a holiday, good views looking over the estuary. It would have benefitted from having 2 keys, to allow guests to do different activities

Salcombe sea and sand ☀️

Publié le 5 mai 2021 sur HomeAway
We visit Salcombe every year but sadly my husband died in a January so this was our first visit on a smaller scale. My daughter and myself arrived at the holiday home after a long drive - it is perfectly placed and really cosy with views over the estuary. It was just the perfect break we needed. The weather was very mixed, sunny, windy and wild and raining - we loved it all and so nice to know we had a lovely warm home to go back to, I don’t want to say too many nice things as I won’t be able to book it again due to it being fully booked! Just to say, we definitely hope to visit again and ... thank you for a lovely stay 😊

Escape to Salcombe

Publié le 1 mai 2021 sur HomeAway
After a year of Covid, we found the picture postcard beauty of Salcombe the tonic we needed. After a long journey, we arrived at shipwrights full of optimism but some uncertainty. The cottage was brilliant, as perfect as the resort, and just what we expected and more. Family came to stay with us and all were blown away. The cottage has all the amenities of the 21st century, while retaining lots of the rustic charms you expect of a period property. We are already thinking of returning to Salcombe and would happily book Shipwrights again. RJ

Not clean

Publié le 20 oct. 2019 sur HomeAway
Lovely small cottage, centrally positioned in Salcombe and very good for travelling around South Devon. Superb views from all around and from the cottage. Problem was cleanliness, the whole of the cottage needed a very good clean, probably take 2/3 days to thoroughly clean it. Washer did not work for 5 days and insufficient towels.

Gross exaggeration from this booking sadly; first time in 14 years. Cleaners do a good job with the changeovers in a small cottage. The sand blocking the washing machine was not reported unfortunately and I organised an engineer as soon as I found out but the weekend was part of the delay. I understood the travellers were from Canada and I offered to organise towels although usually these not provided (see website). Only one of them was from Canada however. Ten towels were available for their use in the cottage and on the beach and I suspect they were for their guest as well. I am always sorry when things are not satisfactory.

Downstairs bedroom musky damp smell.Kitchen requires deep clean. Position of cottage perfect, parking car bit of a nightmare, only allowed 2hours parking on road outside.Leaving car overnight in Devon road behind the cottage for free parking requires a hike to leave and collect car.

Great location, some problems with the house

Publié le 27 sept. 2017 sur HomeAway
Shipwrights cottage is in a fab little spot with the most beautiful views of the estuary and a stones throw from the centre of town. However, due to its location, it can be a little noisy at night with cars driving past and people coming home late at night from the pub, plus if you've got young kids the downstairs bedroom it's not ideal as they have the front door in their bedroom. There was no wifi as Broadband was not working. An electrician was contacted by the owner and the problem was because the property needed to update their connection. However, although the owner was told the problem had been fixed, we never got wifi to work. The washing machine broke during a wash, again the owner said she would send someone in, but it was two days before we left and was not sorted. The bed linen downstairs had not been cleaned properly. There was a strong smell of damp in the downstairs bedroom too. The owner was usually accessible by phone and accommodating where possible, but sadly the above mentioned issues did let the property down.

I am rather taken aback by Melanie's Review, which is misleading, particularly as she had had an advantageous deal. Re the telephone, our provider had dug up 25 meters of road outside Shipwrights for the superfast broadband and the connection to the cottage turned out to be faulty so another road closure and digging up the road was required, which took time to organise. This was promised on a daily basis which was explained but Melanie said that she could access broadband and did not matter. Re the washing machine, the Manager went instantly round to the cottage and did not change the fuse so an electrician was called and he carried out the repair as soon as possible. The cottage is not damp as it is very cosy and quickly heated if necessary. Melanie will know why there was an odour, which was mentioned to me by the cleaners. Sadly I learned of a white sheet having a mark and not being satisfactory, but it was not noticed by the laundry or the cleaners when making the changeover; however, there was plenty of spare linen, which Melanie was happy to use. Her washing up was left in the kitchen sink, which was dealt with by the cleaners but I am sorry that she felt she should give a poor Review as I had done my best with everything and sometimes problems occur. I thought Melanie was a very nice lady.
