Interesting place, driving/parking a challenge.
Hostel basic but interesting, but driving/parking the car was a challenge. The experience was improved when the receptionist recommended a lovely restaurant nearby.
The hostel had a great social atmosphere. Was immediately offered a free drink and plate of pasta upon arrival, and played a game of Jenga with fellow visitors, before even checking in. The rooms were modern and large. The staff were a bit slow and seemed slightly overwhelmed but otherwise it was a great experience.
This is the first time my family and I have ever stayed in a hostel, and Ostello Ave Gratia Plena was a pleasant surprise. The hostel is in a great location, about 15 minute walk from the train station and 2-5 min walk to shopping, SITA bus stop to Amalfi Coast as well as a number of great and inexpensive places to eat (we especially loved Arepa's for quick, tasty meals). What made this hostel truly special, however, was the staff. Everyone was friendly, knowledgable, super helpful and spoke fluent English. The staff went out of their way to ensure we had all the information we needed to make our day trips successful. Rooms aren't huge, but are more than adequate (we stayed in a private family accommodation - a room with 4 beds and its' own, private bathroom). The room, just like the rest of the hotel was spotless and well maintained. I would not hesitate to stay in this hotel again if I ever return to Salerno.
You get what you pay for at this hostel. The rooms are basic but clean. The bed is not very comfortable and you can hear noisy people in the corridors. The shower drain doesn't work very well. But for the money you pay and to get your own room in a hostel it's good value. The staff are very friendly and pleasant.
I was very surprised about this hostel, the location is great, in the old city of Salerno
The breakfast for €3 it is more than ok.
I would book again if I should come back to Salerno.

Quick stop
Just needed to stay one night; had clean towels and hot water shower. I wouldn't stay here for a long visit, but for one night it was fine.
Considering the cost for a double room with extra bed if required. Proximity to beach, just a very short pleasant stroll. Fantastic views of the sea and the ancient town, over 700 years old, from the communal balcony. The fact that the continental breakfast was very good with plenty of choice and included in the extremely reasonable price. The pleasant communal areas. The helpfulness of the concierge staff. All in all, we thought, this 'hostel' was fantastic value for money and a great place to stay.
We were very lucky and thanks to the kindness of the staff and manager we were able to park our car just outside the hostel, which was very convenient, but we were lucky there isn't a great deal of parking space available, so if you arrive with a car expect that you may have to park a few streets away.
The bar may not be available out of the main holiday season.
Very comfortable bed and great hot water - and pressure - in shower. Neighborhood is safe and convenient, but loud until late. No air conditioning, if that is important to you. The staff is first rate and very helpful. Rather spartan, but it IS a hostel! Very good value for money.
The staff was very helpful, one woman in particular because she had excellent English. The hostel is in the Old City, which is a 30 min (with heavy pack) walk from the train station and the streets can get a little tough to navigate if you don't come up from the main street, but that's not their fault.
We had a lovely private room with a great view of the Piazza in front of the hostel and the church next door.
The staff was very friendly helping is find a place to eat, a beach to go, scenic walks and even called a taxi for us the morning we left.
Conveniently located in an interesting part of the town, with well presented rooms.(We returned after our first stay.) Friendly, helpful staff and a very adequate self serve breakfast made for a most enjoyable stay.
It is important to remeber that is an Ostello. I went with my family of four. It is an historic building very well restaured. The staff is great, very good breakfast and in very good location. Please ask to the concierge about it secret: "Il Ducca". Just two blocks from there, the best pizza I ever had (And very cheap).
Delightful quiet overnight in this converted convent. A dozen students also stopping over here, well mannered and pleasant. View from our room of the city was breathtaking, breakfast pleasant, and the neighborhood intriguing. Dinner at a nearby restaurant recommended by the pleasant night clerk (from Argentina!) included an accomplished guitarist. Couldn't have been more pleased by our stay.

Very central youth hostel, in old part of Salerno
Hostel was not sufficiently clearly signed on outside of building. Receptionist spoke very good English and was extremely pleasant and helpful. Room, a double with ensuite, and bed were lovely and very clean and modern, although building is a very old but charming convent. Bathroom toilet cistern leaked constantly and brilliant shower but flooded bathroom a bit. Additional bar in courtyard at night was lovely. Breakfast was a very good selection.
Simple rooms, clean and comfortable, in nice historic part of salerno. Unfortunately we had to leave early and missed breakfast but it sounded nice and was freshly made. Rooms basic but good for price. Have fans and are cool.
Fantastic, be prepared to walk form either end of the street to find this well placed , well priced accommodation, extremely helpful front desk, multi lingual, patient and charming
