Came in to town for SDSU family weekend. Highly recommend if looking for something near campus but still striking distance to other San Diego hot spots.

Lovely home, great location, read the fine print

The property is as described in the listing and the photos show the house accurately and beautifully. The owner is very responsive to questions. My only criticism is that there are amenities lacking that I think most people would expect in a property as nice as this one is. For example, the propane tank for the grill was empty and we were told to go to Home Depot to get a full tank, there was no soap in the shower and were told it was not provided (something we didn’t notice nor expected to have to check in the listing), there were 2 almost empty bottles of conditioner in the shower; extra charge for washer dryer seems petty. The bedroom closets were full of owner(?) stuff and not very usable to store our clothes. There are no dressers so we expected to be able to use the closets. All that being said I would rent this house again now that I’m aware of these issues. They are not deal breakers… you just need to be aware.

As I explained, guests do not want toiletries I have historically provided and want their own to use. This is shown in listing details at time of booking. There are 3 very large closets in the home with 15+ hangers in each. There are extra pillows, blankets, and 2 pack n play which are for guests’ convenience, especially those with children. I’m not clear how you were not able to utilize these very large closets. I offered you laundry access at half the usual fee per stay and explained it is for the extremely high utility costs for Southern California especially with A/C and a pool pump running all day and night during a heat wave. Declining this and then posting it as part of your review with complaint of toiletries not provided is spiteful and equally if not more petty as I provide full disclosure on these in the listing details at the time you book.

Great House

We were in San Diego for my daughter’s re-enlistment and we could not ask for a better house. House was clean and spacious. The location was central to all attractions I.e. San Diego Zoo, Mission Beach, restaurants etc. Pool was great. Kids loved it!

We arrived and found the key box exactly where we were told it would be. There are five of us in the family, with the youngest being 1.5 years old. We were in town because my stepdaughter was getting married. She came over to visit before we all went to dinner with both families. During dinner, I received an email reminding me that we had only paid for a certain number of guests to stay in the house. I wasn't aware that I needed to inform the host of our plans while renting the house. When I told my wife, she felt that we were being watched around the house with cameras, making both her and the kids feel uncomfortable. Even if we were being watched, who watches kids? The pool area had chipped concrete, small rocks in the pool, ants in the front and back of the house, and about ten dead bees floating in the water. The AC didn't work well and took forever to cool the house, making it very hot during our stay. Overall, our stay was uncomfortable.

Guests are expected to book for the full number in their party out of respect for hosts as in this case - the nightly rate is different for 5-6 guests versus 2 or 3. It is unfair to hosts for you to book for fewer guests than your family of 5 and this was clarified at check in during your 2 night stay. There is no monitoring or watching on any camera but there is a ring doorbell for when the property sits vacant - this is detailed in the listing description before booking and obvious when arriving at check in. There are no ring subscriptions though so not possible to monitor anything. The central A/C has been upgraded to a new unit and works great. The smart thermostat goes into economy mode after a couple hours of leaving the home if no movement as many guests would otherwise run the a/c all day despite being out. Outside weather was upper 80s-90s during your stay so yes it does take time to cool the home if you do not use the whole house fan as I recommend and provide clear instructions on in the hallway.

Relaxing Retreat

Beautiful house, lots of space. The pool and backyard was so lovely and relaxing. We ate most of our meals outside. Absolutely loved the view into the canyon and watching the sun go down. The only “noise” was from frogs at night. The house is about 15 minutes away from shopping, the beach and the zoo. Would definitely stay here again…only for longer!

Positives: The place was nice, up-to-date, clean, conveniently located, and had good wifi. Negatives: 1st. I wasn't a fan of the ring security camera above the back door overlooking the whole pool area. I get it that they want to be able to see the back patio doors, but any conversations and obviously you/family going in and out of the pool were concerning. 2nd: The pool was pretty green the day we got there - the pool guy had just left and loaded it up with pool shock, it was swimmable the next day. 3rd: When I contacted the host with a question about doing a load of laundry (washer/dryer locked in the garage from the outside), and also that the thermostat needed a lock code to turn on any air conditioning, she asked for an additional $50 for offsetting "expensive southern California utility fees". I negotiated the fee down, considering I only needed to do a single small load (we were there for 3 nights), and did not end up needing the air conditioning, but the lack of full transparency up front left a bad taste. I would stay somewhere else next time we're in the San Diego area.

Hi Dan, I’m sorry your expectations were not met. It would be helpful to review listing details before booking. The listing details clearly outline a ring floodlight in the backyard is only for security while the property sits vacant. There is no ring subscription so not monitoring of any kind. The listing also clearly states laundry is available upon request for a small fee. There is full transparency on all of this and amenities offered in the listing details for guests who take the time to review the information. The air conditioning had been reset immediately on your arrival by wifi as this was is not supposed to be set this way.
