The Space:
When you stay at Balcony Suite you can wander the colorful streets of Old San Juan to experience the finest museums and attractions including breathtaking cathedrals and world-renowned historic forts of Puerto Rico. The suite has 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, a futon, and a recently renovated kitchen. This stylish home offers high ceilings and fine finishes as well as a balcony that overlooks the Plaza. It has a combination of old-world colonial structural and Spanish architectural design. Modern amenities such as air conditioning, an updated kitchen, wifi, and TV. The location is ideal for those looking to be close to the action in Old San Juan, next to restaurants, shops, nightlife, and all that you need to see in this beautiful historic city. The suite comfortably sleeps 2 adults in the bedroom's king-size bed.

PLEASE NOTE: Some tiles might have marks on them. This is an old building and thus, some of the original tiles might have some blemishes and/or imperfections on them. 

IMPORTANT: This apartment is overlooking the street - guests will hear street noise at night from Friday to Saturday and that is part of the charm!

Please note: Bedroom TV features a SMART TV, just for the use of apps like (youtube, Netflix, etc)

 
LIVING AREAS

As soon as you enter the Balcony Suite you are exposed to rich mahogany beams and beautiful checkered floors to modern comforts. The layout encompasses a living room and dining area and a separate kitchen. The high ceilings are an iconic design feature of the colonial architecture Old San Juan is famous for.

The suite features a dining area right beside the kitchen; which makes it practical for entertaining. The kitchen is equipped with a stovetop, microwave, fridge, and stocked with everything you would need for an extended stay. The living room has a sofa and a flat-screen TV. There is central air conditioning throughout the apartment.


SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS

Balcony Suite has one bedroom that comfortably sleeps 2 adults. The bedroom has a king bed, air conditioning, and access to a full bathroom. The bedroom is appointed with fresh linens for a good night's sleep. It also has a full closest and full-size drawer. There is also a futon in the living room.

PACK AND PLAY (SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY): We can leave a complimentary Pack and Play at the property upon request. This should be requested upon booking or no later than 5 days before arrival. Pack and Plays are subject to availability.

 
KITCHEN

Balcony Suite kitchen is small but comfortable and was just updated with new cabinets and countertops. You will surely spend time cooking in this beautiful kitchen. The kitchen has a coffee maker, stovetop, microwave, and fridge. We include enough paper towels, trash bags, and dish soap for guests to comfortably start their stay.  


LOCATION

Staying in Old San Juan is a truly unique experience filled with charm and character. From the property, you can comfortably walk anywhere within Old San Juan. The apartment is located on one of the quieter streets but still steps away from all the action. We recommend taking a cab from the airport and using Uber or taxi while you stay at Old San Juan. Renting a car is not necessary unless you are planning on road tripping. This is a truly walkable location with everything you need a short walk away. The apartment does not include parking. Nonetheless, there are convenient parking lots close to the apartment.  

There are many things to do in the surrounding areas, here are some of our favorites, all within walking distance:

Explore the El Morro Fort. There are daily tours of the fort and the large green areas have spectacular ocean views. Take a tour, have a picnic, and fly a kite. This is a must-do.
Explore the iconic Calle San Sebastian nightlife. There is a large assortment of bars on this strip which is a favorite among locals on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
Breakfast at “La Bombonera”. This is a Puerto Rican landmark well known for its locally inspired breakfast and pastries.
Savor Stuffed Avocado. Healthy and "trendy" spot where you can create your own avocado bowl.
Take a stroll around “Paseo La Princesa”, a waterfront walkway which you can start off at El Morro and finish of the walk with a rum tasting at Princesa Gastrobar at the end of the trail.


TRAVEL INSURANCE

We strongly recommend that all guests purchase travel insurance, especially during the peak months of Hurricane Season, which are July to October. Travel insurance is inexpensive and will reimburse travelers for most expenses associated with canceling travel outside of the cancellation window; however, this will depend on what the coverage purchased covers. Make sure to review and understand the options before purchase. Disclaimer: we are not associated with any travel insurance companies.


GETTING AROUND

This property does not include parking. If staying within the general San Juan/Metro area, we recommend moving around via Uber. If you decide to rent a car, there are various paid parking garages around Old San Juan - pricing varies as some charge by the hour and others have a flat rate. 


AMENITIES

West Indies strives to deliver top-notch service and amenities to guarantee our guests feel at home while visiting our properties. All of our properties are outfitted with freshly laundered bed linens and towels. We provide 2 bath towels per guest and 1 beach towel per guest. Our properties typically include at least 2 beach chairs and an ice cooler.

West Indies provides the disposable amenities necessary to get your vacation off to a comfortable start. These amenities include 1 set of hotel size soaps and shampoos per bathroom, 3 garbage bags, 1 roll of paper towel, 2 rolls of toilet paper per bathroom, 1 dish soap, and 1 dish sponge. We do not provide unlimited disposable amenities. It is your responsibility to review what is included in the property and stock with whatever else may be needed for the duration of your stay. 


HOUSE RULES 

Check-in time is at 4:00 pm
Check-out time is at 11:00 am
NO SMOKING: Smoking is strictly prohibited. A smoking fee of $500 will be charged if violated.
NO PETS: No pets are allowed at any time. A $300 fine will be charged if violated and you will be expelled from the property.
Building quiet hours are from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am. Please keep noise levels down during these hours out of respect to the neighbors.
The host will not pay for a hotel, vacation rental, or transportation expenses incurred because of an interruption in water or electrical service.  If water or electricity is interrupted for more than 3 hours, guests have the option of canceling their reservation and requesting a refund for the nights not used. Under no circumstances will we refund consumed nights.
All bookings are contingent on signing a short term rental agreement that will be sent via email. It must be signed within 48 hours of booking or before entering the property, whichever happens first.
Maximum occupancy of 2 adults/children at all times. This includes visitors. 
Max. occupancy is strictly enforced and exceeding it may result in immediate cancellation of booking or being expelled from the property.    
Towels and linens must only be used for their intended purpose. Do not stain them with food, grease or any other substance. Do not use towels to clean up any mess. Stained towels/linens will be charged. 
Do not hang towels from the balcony or windows. A $100 fine may be applied if you break this rule.

Central location + a few disclaimers
The location is very central which is nice. So close to everything in Viejo San Juan. Be aware of noise when staying here, especially on the weekend when you can hear the motorcycles “being cool” by seeing how loud they can rev their engines and also some people. The balcony is nice just be aware you’re not near water but across from a plaza and church. The space is also very humid so keep in mind that your clothes and the bed will feel damp even if there was no water involved. The space is spacious so great for more than one person especially with a mini living room and kitchen.

Night before check out, came back from being out all day an AC not working. Apt was hot and very humid. All clothing and bedding was damp. Reported, all they ask was at what time we noticed, told them but no one came to fix it. Left the next morning as soon as we got ready. We have used VRBO hundreds of times w/o issues.

A most wonderful, safe, friendly, and clean city. Absolutely wonderful place to stay. You can walk everywhere. The only thing was the humidity. The A/C was cool and comfortable, but could not keep the place dry. But I heard that is common in PR. We loved our stay!!!!

Perfect for two
This property was perfect for my husband and me. The location is right in the heart of Old San Juan making it easy to walk anywhere we wanted. The balcony overlooks the plaza in front of the University and there is a church right across the street. It was clean and nicely decorated. The only issue we had was there is a large steel plate in the road out front that bangs every time a car drives over it. Ear plugs for sleeping are recommended!

This was an excellent place to stay due to the location. It was nice to be across from the church and the park, and was relatively quiet. Felt very safe. The apartment was clean and the bed was comfortable. I would stay here again!

Great experience!
Great experience all the way around! The apartment is just as described and in the perfect location for exploring Old San Juan. Very easy check in/access to the apartment. The apartment is quite spacious and we loved our stay. Wilfred was an excellent host, very friendly, while we were there for the week. Sometimes, it's the little things that stand out and make a stay more enjoyable. For example, fresh water in the fridge when we arrived, as well as plenty of coffee to get us through a few days. The towels in the bathroom were lovely and the hair dyers is one of the best I've ever used :) My husband and I really enjoyed Old San Juan and hope to be back. We would highly recommend this apartment if you want to immerse yourself in the culture of Puerto Rico :)

Great location for touring. Close to restaurants, bars, and beach. Pillows on the bed and couch were dirty. The floor was dirty when we arrived as well. The shower is small with low water pressure. The balcony door is difficult to open and close and needs repairs. Overall it was an ok stay. The location was so convenient so that helped alot.
