Cabin on Trout River, 9 Acres Surrounded by US Forest, Waterfalls, 100% Secluded

PROPERTY UNHARMED BY HELENE (11/5): At the end of our private gated gravel road after a short drive through United States Forest you will find nine of the most beautiful acres in western North Carolina. The Property was formally operated as "Sweet Water Fly-Fishing Lodge" and has level access to the Thompson River, known for it's Brown Trout fishing and occasional wild Rainbow Trout. Waterfalls are directly reachable from the cabin's front door.

This cabin is for families, hikers, trout fly-fisherman, hunters, and people looking to trade the stress of civilization for nature, beauty, and fresh air.

Our nine acres includes a cabin located on a large mountain meadow surrounded in all four directions by US Forest Land and the thousands of acres of Nanthala National Forest. The Thompson River flows directly beside the cabin. In other locations the Thompson River is mostly unaccessible by vehicle and typically only accessed by fisherman after a lengthy hike. Our property is one of the few spots on the Thompson River accessible by vehicle. Both sides of this level trout river are private property for our renters exclusive use.

Our property includes four "trout holes" and rough trails into Federal Forest Land for fishing, hiking, and exploration. Adjoining the property, a ten-minute walk from the cabin's front door is “White Owl Falls”, a thirty-foot waterfall and swimmable lagoon accessible from our property's private hiking trail. Down river accessible from our property is “Tall Falls”. There are also two swimmable pools, river level and flow permitting, in the Thompson River on our private property. One pool is located just off the large back porch of the cabin and another pool is located a short walk through the forest. There is a large covered pavilion feet from the river, with a rock fire pit, picnic table and Adirondack chairs.

The property is located on Whitewater Rd. In one direction a few miles north is the main entrance of North Carolina's Gorges State Park, named in 2012 by National Geographic Magazine as one of the "50 of the World's Last Great Places - Destinations of a Lifetime", and a few miles south is Whitewater Falls, the largest waterfall in the U.S. east of the Mississippi, and access to "The Foothills Trail", a seventy-six mile long distance hiking trail.

The cabin's outdoor spaces include a large covered front porch facing the meadow, a large deck in the back, and a screened in porch just off the kitchen over looking the Thompson River and the Nantahala National Forest.

Inside our rustic cabin the main floor has two bedrooms: the master bedroom, which has a king (queen in photo) bed and a large walk in closet, and a bedroom with bunk beds. These two bedrooms share access to the cabin's main bathroom. On the main floor there is also the kitchen, dining area, and living room, all open concept. The living room includes a gas fireplace. All bedrooms have baseboard heaters. The cabin's upstairs and main living area is cooled with one large high horsepower mini split a/c unit.

There is a downstairs with an additional three bedrooms, one with a full bed and two with a queen bed and the house's washer and dryer. One of these bedrooms has direct access to the meadow. The second bathroom is downstairs and includes a full bath tub. There is a small third bathroom downstairs. Additionally there is a large living area, with a 65” Roku TV for streaming anything you access at your home, with direct access outside and a second bunk bed sleeping area and kitchenette. The third (not pictured) bedroom has a comfortable queen bed (note this bedroom is simple without a window).

The cabin intentionally does not have cable. As of April 2020 it has high speed-internet and two roku streaming TVs, limited DVD movie selections, and Blue Ray player that is on a movable stand for movie watching. There is a land line telephone.

Additionally, for families with young children there is pack and play crib, booster seat, high chair, children's books, toys, and movies stored on site.

This is a cabin for a family, group of friends, couple, hikers, or fishermen who value the beauty of nature, the forest, water falls, and being on a river. It is a simple cabin in the Nantahala National Forest where you are free to relax and will be at peace in the seclusion of the forest. If you are looking for a uniquely beautiful property to get back to nature you have found it.

Located between Cashiers, North Carolina and Brevard, North Carolina in Sapphire, Transylvania County, North Carolina.

We are in love with this property. One couldn't ask for a more secluded, peaceful and beautiful place to stay . My husband and his best friend from graduate school love to fish, and this property allows them to fish in front of the house while the rest of us enjoy the campfire overlooking the river. I love how close and beautiful White Owl Falls is. The waterfall below the property is even bigger and also has a great swimming hole . Just watch out for some poison ivy patches en route to this one . I wore pants and was just fine. And sitting on the porch in the rocking chairs while listening to the rain on the tin roof is super relaxing. I think this is our third stay here and we're already discussing when to book for next year . Can't wait to enjoy your place again soon, Andrew !

Mountain living at its best!
If you are looking for a place to unwind, relax and leave your life behind this is it! Listening to the water flow over the rocks and along the river is as peaceful as it gets. We had fun swimming in the water and hiking to White Owl Falls. Everything we needed was available in the home and the beds were very comfortable! Love this place.

Fabulous Place to Unwind
This is the second time that we visited this particular spot and I’m sure we will be back again. They’re just is no comparison. The creek in the backyard and the short hike to the waterfall are the highlights. The cabin is spotless and fully equipped for whatever you might need. Just bring the disposable items like toilet paper and paper towels and you’re pretty much set to go. Enjoy!

Stunning property with SO much to do!!
We had such an amazing visit! The property is absolutely breathtaking, the house is immaculate and there is something for everyone here: hiking, fishing, wading, games (indoor and outdoor), fire pit, front porch sitting, screened porch sitting, gazebo sitting...the list is endless. Pretty sure even our dog enjoyed his stay! The house is stocked, clean, quiet and so comfortable - we all slept great and were well rested for the next day's adventures. Looking forward to visiting again soon!

Wonderful place
There are not enough words to describe how wonderful this place is. The home was immaculately clean and the kitchen was well stocked with pots/pans and utensils. The property is beautiful and secluded. We hiked to waterfalls and swam in the swimming hole beside the house. If anyone is curious as to the depth of the water, at the time of our visit it was around shoulder level on a 5' 8" person at the deepest point. Due to the absence of street lights and lights from other homes, this is a great spot for stargazing. We were visited by two bears on two different mornings, watched a deer grazing at breakfast, and even saw a great blue heron fishing below the swimming hole. This is a wonderful place and I hope to return again some day.

A little "PEACE" of HEAVEN on Earth!
This trout cabin and property was absolutely gorgeous! Didn't cath any trout this time but maybe next time...wading and fishing in the river was so rewarding...small falls and beauty everywhere....sitting on the deck with a fire going listening to the falls was pure joy...inside was comfortable and had more than enough of everything needed. Thank you so much! We will be back!

Sapphire NC Cabin Get Away
Beautiful secluded and private cabin that is in a gem of wilderness for those who need their soul refreshed with sound of waterfalls and clear water river and creek that converge on property. Very private and an incredible wilderness experience that is truly unique. The cabin is first class for the experience of camping but feel more like a private resort for one family. Hiking and fishing and just the seclusion makes it a wonderful place.

Peaceful quality time together; exactly what our family needed!
This trip has been one to remember for all of us! We cannot say enough good things about this home, the property, and the location! We brought our 4 kids and dog to stay for 4 days, and the only complaint any of us have is that we're not staying longer! We hiked 2 days at Gorges State Park which was less than an 8 minute drive away. We hiked from the house to White Owl Falls. We ran into Cashiers for lunch and groceries the first day, but after that, we loved every second of seclusion! The house had everything we needed and more! Our family felt at home and welcome! I think most of us are ready to book our next stay here!

Great remote getaway
Loved the home! location is perfect if you want a remote, secluded get away. The trails were very overgrown making it difficult for my kids to navigate. There were several yellow jacket nests in the ground on the trails and one of us were stung multiple times. The house was clean and Nicer than we expected. Like the other reviews say, the Wi-Fi doesn’t work well and only tv is in living room and you can only watch dvds which the owner has supplied lots of. Many of the games at the house are missing pieces that made it not possible to play but there’s lots to explore outside. We saw lizards, a snake, and frogs which the kids loved. The river / stream was fun to play in and there were lots of trails nearby to waterfalls and streams.

Incredible location!
Just completed a weeklong stay at this incredibly beautiful location right next to the Thompson River. Our trout fishers had moderate luck fishing up and down river from here. Great family fellowship in lawn chairs set up on the lawn and IN the river by this house. Our grandkids loved rock hopping around the small waterfall located here. Main level of this house is nice, comfortable remodeled rustic, but kitchen needs some a pot and pan and utensil updating. Downstairs also needs some TLC: no living area furniture, missing light fixture and bulbs. However, the kids and grandkids did fine down there. I would definitely stay here again.

This was our second visit to Sweetwater, and it didn’t disappoint. This property is wonderful for those who love the outdoors and relish in the tranquility of nature. Bring your fishing gear, and leave your devices at home! The home is about 20 minutes from Cashiers, which has a big Ingles grocery store and many cute boutique stores and restaurants. Lots of hiking on property and off property. We are looking forward to booking our next trip in 2023.

Privacy With Nature
Why You Would Stay Here? 1) Get me away; I want to be off-grid. 2) Nature is my thing: river, waterfalls, trout, hikes, campfires 3) I want spaces for my family to gather and eat, but I also want my privacy when I need me time. 4) OK, maybe some time among civilization--Gorges State Park is three miles just up Hwy 281, Headwaters Outfitters for tubing, kayaking, canoeing and guided flyfishing is 20 minutes away on US64, and Cashiers and Brevard are within 30 to 40 minutes. 5) You like booking property with a host who is super responsive and attentive. Why Would You NOT Stay Here? 1) You need a grocery store or shopping mall ten minutes or less away. 2) You must have fast internet/wi-fi. 3) You need a big screen TV in the living area plus one in each bedroom. 4) Listening to the birds, the sound of the small waterfall just off the deck with fire-pit, hiking to even bigger waterfalls on the property, catching brown trout just steps from the cabin turn you off. 5) You'll fall in love with this place and hate leaving it. 6) The myriad of others looking to rent this exceptional, unique and enchanting place reserved it before you got motivated to book it. Get after it!!!
