Isolated lakeside house, view of glaciers & volcanoes, good for day trips - new!

Herrukot, our holiday home built in 2015, is located in a gorgeous isolated location right on the lakeside. The house contains two separate bedrooms, each with very comfortable beds that are 90x200 cm in size, a bathroom with a floor-level shower, underfloor heating throughout the house, living/dining room with a pull-out sofa bed for two, and a completely equipped kitchen including a dishwasher, a ceramic-top stove (4 hobs), and an oven. With a floor area of 66 sq.m, it offers a relaxing vacation. Wi-Fi is available at no cost, as well as bed linen, bath towels, and dish towels. The icing on the cake is the 60-sq.m wooden terrace with its own hot tub and a fantastic view of the lake, mountains, and the Hekla Volcano. The house is somewhat isolated, though because of its ideal location in the Southern Region, it is great for winter stays. The Northern Lights are a completely different experience as there are no lights from nearby houses. Our farmhouse is just 400 m away, you can certainly ride out from our farm. Cosy, calme et vue magnifique.
Super maison en bord de lac. Hyper agréable, bien chauffée, de grandes fenêtres offrant une vue à 180° sur le paysage. Tranquillité assurée. Belle terrasse dont on n'a pas profité car les températures d'avril étaient un peu fraiches (1° avec neige). Le "hot tub" est top car avec une chaude naturelle. Aucune pollution lumineuse si vous voulez faire de belles photos d'aurores boréales. On a passé un super séjour, on y retourne dès que possible !

Perfect place
A nice house in a fantastic place. After a busy year, spending one week there in this quiet house was perfect. This home is nice for a family and is well located to visit south of Iceland. You are 5 minutes from the main road, so it's easy to visit. If you like horse riding, you can book with the owner a lake tour which is so great to do. Definitively a dream like house !

Parfait !
Première chose à dire, la propriétaire des lieux est adorable et toujours présente pour vous aider ! Ensuite, la maison est très mignonne, chaleureuse et bien au calme. Nous avons vraiment apprécié que les condiments de bases soient fournis. On s'y sent vraiment comme à la maison ! Le Hot Tub est au top, même entouré par la neige, et la vue est sublime. Nous y avons passé un agréable séjour. Merci beaucoup !!

Cottage confortable,agréable, bien entretenu, bien situé au bord d'un lac avec vue sur un glacier, des chevaux,des moutons. Hot pot sur la terrasse pour détente en fin de journée. Possibilité d'excursions à l'Est et l'Ouest. Adresse à recommander sans réserve par une inconditionnelle de l'Islande, 12 séjours en 23 ans!

Absolut wintertauglich!
Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt total genossen. Lage des Hauses ist wunderschön. Einsam und gleichsam sehr gut erreichbar. Im Winter sind dazu Reifen mit Spikes zu empfehlen. Der Wohn/Ess/Küchenbereich ist für 4 Personen großzügig für isländische Verhältnisse. Zimmer sind Der Hot Pot auf der Terrasse ist das Highlight.

Best stay we’ve have in Iceland
This was our third time visiting the island and we could not have had a better stay. The house was exactly what we were looking for, and the hosts were fantastic. The communication was excellent and they were kind enough to message us on an amazing display of the northern lights to make sure we didn’t miss it. I cannot wait to make sure my friends book this location on their trips and we will definitely be back!

From booking, Renate was very responsive and helpful even flexible with our check-in/out times. The house was a perfect getaway and a great location between Reykjavik and Vik. Remote Stay Outside of Selfoss
Lovely remote location on the side of a lake on an Icelandic horse farm. Property was immaculate and allowed for a very cozy stay during a snowstorm/road closure. Cabin was amazingly sturdy during 60mph winds. Hot tub was great despite the brutal wind and snow. Trees provided a great wind break. Thankfully bought groceries at Knonan in Selfoss before we arrived (and some wine/beer at the duty free on our arrival at KEF). Although remote, we had great connectivity to deal with a crisis at home. Host communicated with us on Christmas morning to warn us about the road conditions. We also saw the host on Boxing Day, and she was very welcoming. Cabin is about 20 minutes from Selfoss "city center" and a 30-minute trip to Midgard Adventure (further east on the Ring Road) in Hvolsvöllur, where we took an amazing all-day tour after we checked out of this property. Overall, a great stay for our family of 5. No Northern Lights this time, but if back in Iceland, we would stay here again.

Beautiful cabin on the lake
Location - we loved being so close to the horse farm. Renate was very kind and welcoming and gave us a tour of the farm. We will be sure to return in the summer to go for a ride as well. The location was also great for the golden circle and the secret lagoon.Cabin - it was very well insulated and cozy, even in December. Everything was very well constructed (doors, windows, latches) and we had everything that we needed for delicious dinners in (we bought groceries from Bonus and Kronan). The beds were comfortable too. Hot pot - this was amazing! It was hot and very cozy. We enjoyed ending our days in the hot pot every night of our stay. Most nights were cloudy but one night, it was clear and we had a great view of the big dipper :)Thank you for a wonderful stay :)

Central, yet somehow isolated
Our group of four really appreciated our stay at this property. It was just over an hour out of Reykjavik, and gave us a convenient place to head toward the south coast one day and the Golden Circle the next. The views were stunning, the house was well appointed, and the floor heating was remarkably efficient. There were a couple of nitpicks, although they did not really impact our stay. While we did see a snow covered mountain from the deck, did we really see a glacier? The bedrooms are small, and the windows caused us a bit of grief. We also had to go to the end of the driveway for a northern view the one early morning we could see a bit of the Northern Lights, since trees block the northerly view from the house, but again, these are small issues. I would wholeheartedly recommend a stay at this property if the location fits with your Iceland touring plans. Just keep going past the horse farm when you first arrive; the owners live there, but the house is further along the road. They were nice about it when Google Maps had me turn there; we probably weren’t the first to do so.

Just “wow!”
Choose this place for a great view over a lovely lake, a large deck with a spacious hot tub feed by natural hot water, very clean and thoughtfully built and supplied house, quiet surroundings and the best horse riding experience around! We LOVED our stay here. Renata and her family are so friendly.

Tolle Lage
Wir waren mit der Familie da und es war wunderbar. Verschiedene Ausflugsziele des Golden Circle sind innerhalb einer Stunde zu erreichen. Das Reiten auf dem Hof war win tolles Erlebnis. Wir hatten eine wundrrvolle Woche in Renates Häuschen. Das Haus ist gut eingerichtet und war sehr sauber. Renate ist eine sehr nette Vermieterin und hat uns bei Fragen geholfen. Das Beste ist allerdings die Lage des Häuschens, so eine perfekte schöne Alleinlage mit einem fantastischen Blick und dann noch ein toller Hot pot besser geht es nicht!! Ich kann es nur empfehlen!!

Amazing Time
The Lake House was beautiful and clean. It was a great spot to start all our adventures traversing the South side of Iceland. We arrived later in the day and had a bit of an embarrassing mix-up with our directions. However, Renate was very nice about us driving into the horse training area, sorry again for that. She was also very responsive to all our needs and our stay was just wonderful. We did not see the Northern Lights, but that may just mean we have to go back. Next time during a month when they are more prevalent. Thank you for everything Renate, you were a great host!

Great Location - super relaxing - everything you need
Stayed here with two kids and two adults - fantastic location, very peaceful and quiet. Located about 5 km off of the main highway 1, it was a great central place to take in some of the Golden Circle sights and also going down to Vik and the Black Sand Beach. Rejkavik was also within reach if we desired, but we had a separate stay in Rejkavik. Would definitely stay here again.
