Emplacement : Out of season, Shumen is pretty quiet. I didn't see much of Shumen, only being there for a day and a half, and in meetings for most of that time.
The pictures shown on Expedia are quit flattering, as this hotel needs a bit of a spruce up. We originally were given a lovely room on the 4th floor, but it has a double bed - we booked a twin. After explaining that we still wanted a twin, we were moved to the 3rd floor. Rather dingy, and the rooms clean, and functional, but not as nicely/not refurbished like the 4th floor. We booked the Hotel in part for the swimming pool/spa/sauna - only to find out that none of this was open. Very disappointing that this didn't appear to be detailed int he hotel description.
The restaurants in the hotel are fine - the Mexaha downstairs s good value with entertainment on most nights, and the top floor Panorama restaurant looked lovely - bvery modern - and fittgin of any major western city. the food was ambitious, but a little disappointing. Overcooked rubbery octopus, rice-pudding like risotto, and a pleasant salmon with miso crust. At 50 levs (£23) for 2 people Including the soft drinks we can't expect too much.
The hotel is 5-7 minutes walk from what seems to be the main pedestrian shopping road, so location is fine too.
No safe in the room, which was a pity.
At the price, it seems unfair to expect much - but when advertised as 4*, then a level of expectation is set.
Not sure I'd try the same hotel again - as others on offer in the city which look a bit more modern.
