We loved the location, the wildlife, the hospitality and the ability to walk in a relaxed setting each morning. Close to everything for the day and still have the real feel of getting away. Thank you for such an original and comfortable stay!

A bit of a surprise.
Posted Aug. 3, 2019 on HotelsThis was a last minute booking made out of necessity. We did not investigate before hand. Our accommodation was the loft style room in the hosts "barn". Quite rustic. My wife characterized it as similar to a hostel you might encounter overseas. However, the room rate was exactly the same as a highly rated B&B but with almost no amenities. Not what we expected. Didn't see any other rooms at this property. Maybe the other rooms were commensurate with the room rate.On the plus side, the owner / host was extremely cordial.

Not sure how to respond to this, except to say, we have lots of pictures, and we are sorry you didn't appreciate the special thoughts, care and details put into the creation of the rooms in the barn. You could have cancelled at no fee. The room you booked is the entire third floor and it is a private space with a private bath. It is in a barn, reuses hardware, doors and windows from the original house which have been entirely retrofitted. Even if under the roof, special attention was put into bringing in natural daylight for a feeling of openness and creating a balcony with mahogany inserts in the floor. We actually have people that request the barn over the house. The barn is rustic as that is its style. We trust that bookers would take the time to review the rooms prior to booking as we have no control over what you are willing to look at. Best travels.

Great Weekend Getaway!

Pros: Everything ! The location & view overlooking the area is/was gorgeous. The accommodations couldn't have been nicer.
Cons: No downside anywhere. B&Bs are so much more comfortable, personable, and enjoyable particularly when ones like Riverhouse are operated by such gracious hosts.
Location: Rural setting (which we liked ), but close to Portsmouth for dining and exploring / sightseeing. Also So. Berwick had some nice restaurants.
