Tired
Location is spot on but the house itself is very tired, tatty and in need of some serious tlc. Upstairs is ok bed were comfy and bedrooms tidy looking, but downstairs is completely different the furniture in the living room was quiet grubby and the kitchen and its appliances need a good revamp. Such a shame as it could be beautiful, I am by no means a snob, but I don’t like paying to stay somewhere that’s not as good as my own home. Very disappointed, don’t know how it gets a 9.2 rating I didn’t expect luxury but just things in the home that felt half decent. It’s a 6.5 in my opinion.

Wittensford Lodge
A comfortable house, and large garden, though close to a busy road. Fine for six adults. Just a couple of issues, reported to host, but nothing serious..

Family holiday
Lovely period cottage in the New Forest. Location perfect for exploring. We had deer in the garden and 4 pigs that live on the road next door (heads up- the pigs do scratch against the cars as there is no gate where the cars park). The photos don’t do the cottage justice as the living room is redecorated with different furniture. There was plenty of space for 4 adults, an older child and a dog. The cottage is near to a junction with 2 roads but you don’t really hear the road noise inside the cottage. The host soon replied with any questions we had prior to the holiday which was really appreciated. We would definitely visit again.

Family holiday (booked pre-covid)
We had a great stay here, highlight was probably see the deer coming into the garden. The cottage is well placed as a base for exploring the New Forest with lots to offer from countryside to beech days.

Animal Heaven
Great initial communication with the owner and smooth checking in and out. The cottage is pretty and incredibly well equipped and suited myself, my sons and my dog really well. The cottage grounds were great for exploring and being able to walk to see the new forest wildlife was an added bonus. Visiting pigs and deer was a massive added bonus. Thank you so much for a lovely stay. Definitely intending to come back

Hidden gem for a peaceful retreat
After a long drive and wondering what the property would be like, we were pleasantly surprised to find our hidden gem. The house is not modern, but it is perfect for spending time in and out of. We love walking and from the house you can walk to lots of places and not even use the car to get to a pub or shop. It is close to a road but inside you cannot hear the traffic and sitting in the garden you don’t really notice it. One thing you will notice is the deer. If you look out of the windows, you might find a herd of deer on the lawn or if like us you are lucky even a fox! We have already rebooked as this recharged the batteries and gave us a boost. Thanks Gina

Magical
It was so good to have a change of scenery after months of lockdown. It is a beautiful old house in a magical setting. The grounds and wood are lovely to walk in and having the deer coming into the garden and the pigs outside is enchanting. It’s fully equipped with everything you could possibly need for your stay and the beds have the most comfortable mattresses we’ve ever slept on. It’s perfectly situated for exploring the New Forest and was a great way for us to end lockdown.

A week in the forest.
Very comfortable with an enchanting garden. We walked down the lane most days and saw wandering pigs, donkeys and ponies. The cottage has character and plenty of room for five adults, a baby, and two dogs.

Unfair rating of previous review
Before we arrived we got really worried about this place we were heading to based on the review in June. I think this review was unfair. Yes, the place is vintage in appearance, but it is not unclean. It has lovely bespoke crittal windows and has 1970s features, but that doesn't mean it isn't authentic. The deer come in the garden which is lovely, and its location is fantastic. The garden is lovely. It isn't cold and it has a hot shower. It does have a sensitive kitchen smoke alarm but we found it fine. Don't believe every review you read, that's what I would say. Yes, it is not recently decorated, it has carpets rather than laminate floors and old windows. but it is a lovely old cottage in the middle of the forest, that is perfectly capable of a nice place to stay. I think if you updated it too much you would spoil its authenticity. I like it.
