Thankful for Solitude
Posted Jun. 2, 2024 on HomeAwayWe enjoyed the perfectly cozy cabin and springtime in the high country. The property is a perfect balance of woods and meadow that creates a sense of an old homestead. It’s an escape to a simpler time and place that leaves one thankful for a chance to just be amongst the beautiful scenery and solitude.
Joann was the perfect host and made us feel welcome and special. We will return for another visit soon.

Beautiful and peaceful
Posted Sep. 19, 2021 on HomeAwayFrom the moment we drove up to the property, I knew this was going to be the vacation we were expecting. We wanted seclusion, beautiful scenery, cozy lodging, and water. All the boxes were checked with this one. The great thing is it's secluded, but also close to stores and downtown Sparta. We sat on the front porch in comfy rocking chairs each morning with coffee, and sat on the back patio at night by the outdoor fireplace. The river is shallow, so walking it is easy. My husband and son found many fishing holes nearby within walking distance from the house. We would love to go back to this house again, and we are already looking forward to it!

There were ticks this year, which hadn't been the case before, and she was super-responsive in getting a treatment done for the property. A really wonderful getaway. Thanks!

Shangri-La in the Blue Ridge

Serene location

Relaxing and quiet

Girls getaway
Posted May 30, 2021 on HomeAwayWe live about and hour from Sparta. This was a weekend getaway for us moms. It was so relaxing, especially the sound of the River and then the fireplace at night. Can’t wait to visit again.

Secluded and peaceful classic cabin retreat

Seclusion
Posted May 22, 2021 on HomeAwayWe were looking for a place off the beaten path to stay while traveling further south.
Tucked away in the mountains is this little gem.
Great for the fisherman or those really looking to get away. You won’t see people unless you want to.
The house was well stocked with all we needed (other than food and drink). We did leave some firewood, though, you should bring your own. We had to scavenge/go buy some.
The kids enjoyed sleeping in the loft area. The full bath upstairs is a huge plus.
The only negative, is the queen bed was not good for two. Sleeping on the one side left you rolling to the center. Thankfully, the couch was also comfortable for sleeping!
Great hiking trails close by, and Sparta is not a far drive at all for some good food and drinks.
Saw several deer on the drive in, and a few turkeys.
