Elegant country retreat near Spring Green w expansive views of Driftless Region

The Glass House of Spring Green is an architectural gem set along a ridge of native prairie grasses and oak woods, with an exceptional view of the Driftless Area hills. Built in 1984, it was enrolled in the Driftless Area Land Conservancy, assuring that its native landscape will be maintained in perpetuity. Its parklike setting assures a private, peaceful retreat.

Prairie plants and native trees dominate the 24 acres near the house and mowed paths give access for birding, botanizing, picnicking, snowshoeing and skiing. A large deck with ample seating faces the distant hills and vivid sunsets. Inside an extensive library offers reading for all tastes, from history and nature to fiction and photography.

A single story, 2,300 sq ft home, the 3 bedroom and 2 baths stretch along a hallway leading from the central space. A glass wall brings the outside in to the central space. The 3 bedrooms include 1 king, 1 queen and 1 twin bed set up, all with easy access to one of the 2 bathrooms. The kitchen is fully equipped to please even the best gourmet cook.

Nearby outdoor recreation includes the Wisconsin River and Governor Dodge State Park for paddling, swimming and hiking. American Players Theatre, Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin, the Spring Green Art Fair and many music venues are within a 15 minute drive. The House on the Rock is less than a mile away and two golf courses are close by.

The easy-access layout includes ample parking and a large, walk-in tiled shower in the main bathroom. WiFi and Satellite TV service is reliable. The geothermal heating and cooling system is both comfortable and environmentally friendly year-round.

It is well suited for larger outdoor events, by special arrangements with additional fees.

Beauty and Tranquility

The Glass House is the perfect place to relax and unwind. The house itself is cozy and is stocked with the necessities. Easy check-in/check-out process and great communication from the host. The property around the house is incredible, plenty of walking trails to enjoy. It feels like your own private wildlife sanctuary. Perfect location if you enjoy birding and wildlife.

Great location for seeing wildlife. We were even lucky enough to see a bobcat. Property was well off the road and seemed like you were living on "Little House on the Prairie." House was exactly as described, and we couldn't have asked for a better location to see House on the Rock and Cave of the Mounds. Enjoyed are family time together and will definitely be back.

Awesome weekend for a reunion with friends

Spring Green was a great halfway point for meeting up with friends. Three couples shared this beautiful house for a low key weekend. This unique property had everything we were looking for. The house is well-maintained, was fully stocked (especially the kitchen), and offers a spacious layout. The setting is beautiful. Barbara was a wonderful host.

Lovely Weekend at the Glass House!

Long time women friends enjoyed our weekend at the Glass House. The driftless area of WI is beautiful. We had great sunny fall weather. It only rained at night. We chose to stay at the house for dinner both Friday and Saturday nights and sat on the deck and took in the gorgeous view, yakked, watched a movie, lounged. Very comfortable, beautiful home. I’d love to return in the winter!

A beautiful oasis

Lovely, quiet house and acreage

We ( three friends) really enjoyed our stay here. The house is comfortable and has everything we needed. The beds are comfortable and the house is spacious. We loved the many windows and the beautiful views. Drinking coffee on the deck in the morning and watching and listening to the plentiful birds was a treat. The house is convenient to Talesien and other Frank Lloyd Wright attractions. I highly recommend this place to stay!

APT weekend, almost

We booked in anticipation of seeing a couple of APT productions. The weekend was uncomfortably hot for outdoor theater. Fortunately, the Glass House was fantastic. Property is perfect for American Players Theatre productions. It is spacious, comfortable inside and out. Surrounding grounds are beautiful, full of wild flowers, quiet, scenic, with walkable paths leading to a stunning overlook. We have absolutely no negative comments at all.
