Hello Jason & thanks for submitting a review of our cottage. I appreciate you acknowledging that I was upfront regarding the imperfections with The Whale. I’ve always tried to be honest and manage expectations. Our place is not perfect, but the price is much lower than other properties while still offering many positive aspects! That being said; we absolutely agree that we needed some ‘refreshments’. We’re in the off season now and I’ve got my contractor scheduled to start a series of upgrades; including new front deck doors, replacing rusted deck furniture (the salt air is harsh), replacing exterior lighting fixtures and repairing carpentry deficiencies on the deck.
I hope you will consider returning to The Blue Whale again soon I can assure you that you will find everything in much better shape.

Great week at the beach!

The check in process was easy and seamless. The cottage was clean and as described in the listing. Very convenient beach access from the cottage and within walking distance to restaurants and shopping.

Hello Brad and thanks so much for the gracious review! We've been thinking about the deficiencies in the 'star system' here. If you compared our place to the Ritz Carlton, we would be 1 star... however if your took factors like, price, amenities and comparison to other cottages in the same category (in which we feel we offer quite a bit more 'bang for your buck'), it would be a more level playing field (and that 5* would be easy!). At any rate, maybe VRBO will find a better way to compare homes in the future. We're glad you enjoyed our cottage and hope you'll be back soon! We're always trying to keep up with improvements and repairs, but property taxes and insurance keep going up and we want to maintain affordable rates. It's a delicate balance. Although we've had offers (for big money) to sell, we would never... there are too many memories here! We've owned The Whale for over 30 years and are planning on passing it down to our kids! :-)

Publié le 31 août 2024 sur HomeAwayCute little beach cabin close to the water. Great views! In need of a little TLC. Porch door needs to be replaced. Would definitely stay again, and recommend to those looking for a centrally located place to stay on SGI.

Now that we've hit the 'off season' we are definitely addressing the minor issues that need attention (including replacement of the screen door). Great location
Publié le 17 août 2024 sur HomeAwayOwner was very communicative and helpful. It’s an older house and he describes it accurately in the listing. Loved watching the movies - a varied selection. Lots of towels and so nice that we didn’t have to bring beach chairs. The proximity to beach is great!

So glad you enjoyed the stay at our cottage! We appreciate that you acknowledged that our place was ‘accurately described’. We try and be totally upfront regarding the age and deficiencies of The Whale (although there are many benefits that we feel make up for any deficiencies)! The rates we charge hopefully reflect that. We enjoy being an option that, while not perfect, provides a comfortable place at a much lower cost. Again, thanks for the 5Stars and we hope you’ll be back soon!!

Great Location!!

The Blue Whale is walkable to so many places to eat or buy groceries! We enjoyed the easy walk to the beach each day and the beautiful view! We cannot wait to stay here again!

You are so kind Ms. Brianna! As I mentioned when we spoke on the phone, prior to your visit, The Whale is close to our heart. In the 90's we would literally spend the entire summers with the kids there. The memories made will last a life time! At this point we very much enjoy the opportunity to share our place with others (which covers the ever increasing insurance and property taxes) plus the ability to enjoy it ourselves when not rented. I used to be in the radio business, so I appreciate the fact that you enjoyed the sound system! I put a lot of work into it. :-) Many thanks and we hope you'll choose our cottage again down the road! Publié le 10 juill. 2024 sur HomeAwayThis was our second summer staying at the Blue Whale...and it's still great! My family absolutely loves the laid back feel of this adorable house. It's so close to the water, you can walk to the Blue Parrott, you can ride bikes, it's pet friendly and our dog LOVES it! The deck is perfect for watching the water and sunset after a long beach day. Mr. John is amazing and ensures you have everything you need down to a beach wagon and chairs. It's the best place to stay and we will be back next year! Hoping to be able to stay longer!

Great Location - easy access to all things St George

House has some age and could use a little love. But everything works as it should and although you’re not stepping on the beach when you walk out, you’re an easy walk to the beach (less than 1 block). If you’re looking for luxury, this isn’t the place. If you’re looking for a great location with just enough room to sleep and eat in private with everything you need and nothing you don’t, this is a good option.

Hi Alan, thanks for the review of our place and we appreciate your feedback. We totally realize that The Whale is not ‘new construction’ or a fancy beach resort. We’re just offering a simple ‘Old Florida Beach Cottage’ at a reasonable price for folks that don’t want to pay 8K for the place across the street. We try and be very upfront with guests in our description on the VRBO listing. I know we will eventually need to do some upgrades in the near future, but our property taxes have doubled in the last few years and the insurance has tripled. We’re trying to keep our rates the same. In fact we haven’t raised them in years. Again, thanks for your input and we hope you’ll consider staying with us in the future.
