wonderful secluded hideout but needs updating

Publié le 1 janv. 2025 sur HomeAway
Overall, we had a great restful time at Westerhall, Fort Jeudy. The garden, the pool and the patio was lovely although it does get a bit slippery and one of us slipped, fell & got hurt. Suggestion is to put a caution sign up as it rains too and not just from using the pool. It was a secluded house, just what we wanted. The house needs updating to make the stay more comfortable although we understood it was for sale. There are 3 toilets but 1 shower. The bath taps are broken, is unusable so if turned to a shower/bath, it could serve to the 6 people living in the house. There needs to be aircon in the 2 bedrooms downstairs and a proper fan in the living room. Even in the winter, it was pretty hot and uncomfortable at night. The mattress upstairs and the dining room chairs, which are in a precarious condition need replacing. The kitchen is generally well equipped but needs updating with a dishwasher, a better working gas hob. The dryer should be allowed to be used by the guests. The house sleeps 6-8 but provision for making coffee is for 2 persons so a bigger cafetiere is what we suggest so we don’t need to make coffee in 3 bits. There were suggestions how to economise the washing up liquid. In 2.5 weeks we had 1 visit from the cleaners. We understood that during the festive/Xmas period this was difficult to arrange. Finally, the VRBO advert must mention the steepness of the driveway. It was a difficult one to negotiate even with a SUV. Thanks for letting us stay in the house.

We are sorry that our property didn’t meet your expectations Rima. To address the issues raised; The original ‘slippery when wet’ sign must have gone during the recent storms & is now replaced. Apologies for that lapse. We made the heartbreaking decision to put the property on the market after having no income for almost 2 years due to Covid. It does indeed need updating & I’m sure new owners will address this but we cannot afford to. Both bath taps do work. For us, part of the enjoyment of being in the Caribbean is leaving the meshed bedroom shutters open & falling asleep to the sounds of tree frogs & crickets & waking up to hear bird song & the ocean. AC would stop that. Our listing states AC is only available upstairs. There is an additional floor standing fan in the lounge. Electricity cost are high which is why we ask guests not to use the tumble dryer. We have not considered a dishwasher for much the same reason. Cleaning ladies & Sheliza mystified as to your comment about dishwash soap. We have asked Sheliza to purchase another cafetière as we always have had two. Apologies for this oversight. I have seen the message you sent to Sheliza declining a different cleaner over Xmas after Kerah had to cancel. The driveway is on the steep side, but no one else has flagged a problem. If the house was brought up to the standards you have described, it would be way more expensive than what we charge. Our humble home offers solitude, a private pool & short strolls to the sea.

The Property is well managed and was very clean. My adult children and in-laws really enjoyed the pool. A TV would be nice.

Home from Home

No 76 may be a little jaded, but in a very much loved way. We felt completely at home from the moment we arrived. Everything was spotlessly clean. It was the perfect place to chill during a particularly hot spell - even the locals commented on the heat. The pool was a godsend & the hammock on the balcony became my own little haven after a swim. There were plenty of towels, bathroom, beach/pool & kitchen. The laundry facilities are excellent - we really didn’t need to take nearly as many clothes. We all slept like babies; an added bonus for me as an insomniac. Although only the upstairs bedroom has air-con there are numerous fans available. The kitchen was well equipped, though most of our cooking was done on the barbecue. Communicating with David, Mandy & Sheliza throughout the whole process from booking to departure was so easy - they were always on hand to message. There were a few minor issues we had to sort out, but with their assistance, everything was overcome. Our only real problem was with the driveway which is very steep and not the easiest to negotiate, but we managed. A small word of warning though - make sure to wear shoes on the patio & around the pool as the tiles get extremely slippery when wet; with only 3 hours left of our holiday, I slipped & fell face first while exiting the lounge & ended up with a nasty bump on my head, a sprained wrist & a bruised big toe. Don’t expect 5* luxury - but expect 5* relaxation, location & chill factor.

Nice but with a problem

Very charming, large, quiet and secluded property in an upscale nighborhood but with a very big mosquito problem. Maybe update the screens? And the uncomfortable old furniture too. Reupholster everything, including the beds.

One Word - Fabulous

Resort like but very comfortable, like a home away from home but on vacation. House was well-stocked with linens and a chefs kitchen supplies! A dip in the pool in the evening was such a delight! Hosts and local contacts all wonderful to work with. Airport pickup much appreciated. Our team was able to help a local church using this house as a home base. Thank you!

Beautiful (although a little tired)

Beautiful setting, peaceful, restful, well equipped, comfortable home. We know that this industry has had a very hard time during covid and the property is now ready for a little sprucing but the reasonable price definitely reflected this. We actually found the WiFi better than expected and the only thing we missed was a dishwasher 🤣. The island was stunning and the people lovely. We had a wonderful 2 week break and would definitely return 😁

Great Family Place

The property is well located to get to wonderful beaches some easy walking distance. It is well maintained. The only drawback is lack of AC except one bedroom upstairs. We adjusted to the warmth but still missed cooler night time temps. Lack of biting insects except at dusk was a big plus. The pool was refreshing especially before turning in at night. Grounds are well maintained. We had 4 adults and 3 teenage boys. A car is a plus as the best grocery is 30 min away in St. Georges. We rarely return to the same location but this home might easily be the exception. I would give this property 4.5 stars.

Perfect Holidays

Publié le 25 oct. 2019 sur HomeAway
Just returned from a glorious 14 days at New Westerhall. As others have said, the house is more beautiful in person. The house faces East, so each morning you wake up to see the sun coming up over the ocean - and your personal pool. It was paradise. New Westerhall is just a little "off the beaten path", but with a rental car was very accessible. There is at the beginning from New Westerhall a SOG store .The town St. Georges and a slew of wonderful beaches (Morne Rouge and Gran Anse were all within a 20 minute drive. The driving is definitely an "adventure" -- narrow, winding and hilly roads. Especially challenging for those not used to driving on the left. But we quickly became comfortable and were able to navigate the island in daylight. We generally opted to stay in at night and avoid the roads in the dark. Maps.me was a good map, which you can used offline around the whole Island. A small SUV with many power is a good idea for renting an car All in all a wonderful stay.

Beautiful Grenada...

Publié le 1 juin 2019 sur HomeAway
Our family of 4 stayed comfortably in this home for a week's vacation. Booking the property was easy. The owner was very attentive to all our questions. We were picked up at the airport by Lashlei. He delivered us safely to the house where we were met by Sheliza, the property manager. She walked us through the property, answering our questions and offering suggestions of things to do on the island. She gave us her number and followed up with us during our stay to make sure all was well. We ended hiring Lashlei for the week as our driver. His service was impeccable. Our oldest daughter, had her friend who works on the island for the Peace Corps, come to the house for 2 days of R & R. There was plenty of room for the early risers to hang out while others slept in. This property is exactly as advertised on Homeaway. Our family would recommend it as as quiet, beautiful oasis.
