I booked a room at the Common Farm Motel as I was passing through and needed to arrive late and leave early.
I called up the day before to check that they had my booking and the receptionist told me that they didn't like people arriving after 9pm as it was inconvenient for them. I said I had a long drive and I was hoping to be there before 10pm but it wasn't something I could predict. He actually called me at about half seven as I was driving up to ask where I was - something that has never happened to me.
If you're running something calling itself a Motel, the clue's in the title, you ought to expect that people will want to drive in late and leave early!
When I did get there, it wasn't a Motel as I would recognise it - more a series of converted outhouses. The room I was shown to was roughly the size of a prison cell and probably less clean (I've never been in a prison cell, so I can't really comment). Single bed, low ceiling, I could touch both walls at the same time. It smelt strongly of mould and when I investigated the en suite bathroom, this started to make sense.
The room wasn't absolutely filthy, or I'd have left - but it was probably twenty years since it had been renovated. Imagine the most tired student accommodation in the UK that's been cleaned by someone who really doesn't give a damn about their work any more, There was black mould on the shower fittings and all over the bathroom.
Put it like this, I'm not planning on going back anytime soon.
