This cute house is easy walking distance to everything. We saw penguins hiding in the rocks straight across the road. The owners Chris & Rhonda cooked us a beautiful breakfast and chatted easily to us in their kitchen while they cooked. The upstairs admiral room is huge with great views overlooking the water. Loved our 2N stay there and loved our complimentary bottle of wine for our 30th Wedding Anniversary. Dave & Krissy Qld

Yes, our location is surely special with the great water views and being in close proximity to the town centre, but it's magical to see the little penguins on your walk back home of an evening. Enjoyed our one night stay at the Ark, room was large and clean. You can walk to the hotel for dinner in seven minutes.

Property and facilities were excellent and our hosts made settling in very easy and homely. Breakfast was excellent, home grown ingredients. Stanley and The Ark are a must visit.

Disappointing Host

Whilst the room and breakfast was pleasant we had difficulty with the host, Rhonda. She seemed unfriendly towards us and was unhappy with us not booking directly through her. On our last night we asked if we could have access to the continental breakfast a bit early and 2 eggs at 8.00am and we would bring our own tea and coffee, as we had to get the hire car back or pay for another days hire. When we arrived at breakfast at 7.50 am the door was locked. It wasn't opened until after 8.00am and then two other guests were given their full breakfast with everything before we were given our two eggs. I believe this was done deliberately.

It's unfortunate William you did not entirely enjoy your stay with us, but I am really quite at a loss to understand why you consider I was unfriendly and unhappy as you did not book direct with us. The fact of the matter is; it is only the guest who receives the benefit of booking direct, we receive the same remuneration whether the booking is made direct or not. Furthermore, we treat all guests equally no matter the source of the booking; often including early check in and/or late check out when possible, a free upgrade when available, and a complimentary bottle of wine (which you received, as you might recall). While you did request an earlier breakfast for your last morning, we explained it was not possible due to the logistics of prepping food for forty minutes prior to the kitchen opening, and subsequently cooking for 10 people. On the rare occasion a guest needs to be off early, we never fail to offer to provide a full complement of breakfast provisions for self-catering. Unfortunately, you declined this offer without further explanation, and as such we were unable to serve you prior to the kitchen opening. When we opened the kitchen at 8am we noted you were in the dining area along with another couple. You served yourselves at the continental counter and I considered I was being polite by allowing 5 minutes for you to enjoy that portion of breakfast before seving your eggs. In the meantime the other couple were served their full breakfast, as they were not partaking of the continental section, so they were having their breakfast at the same time as you commenced yours. There was no deliberate or conscious intention there, just genuine efforts to do the best I could. We wish you happy and safe travels.
