If you love spiders and a dirty home, this is your place!

Upon arriving we immediately walked through spider webs and noticed an odor in the air. It smelled like the house had not been opened in months to fresh air. The house was extremely warm and there is no AC. This was on the listing but we missed that. My wife went to wash her hands in the kitchen sink only to be met by 10-12 spiders chilling in the sink. Apparently momma spider was in the tub, which is where she met her maker. We then went on to inspect other areas of the home where we found quite interesting stains on the couch, a poorly attempted cleaning of a wine stained couch pillow, and horribly stained dining room seat cushions. I would not ask my enemy to sit on the couch or dining room chair. Master bedspread was covered with interesting black dots, not sure what those were. Furniture was not what was in the photos posted in the listing, nor was there any patio furniture. Bottom line we did not stay at the property and ended up booking a hotel room for our stay. We are currently working on getting our money back, but that is proving to be difficult. I would not recommend staying here unless you love spiders and other random insects visiting you in the night. We were also told that other guests have mentioned insects and the property owner will not allow the management company to spray.

Pros and Cons

Pros: Home was very pretty and very clean. New floors and carpets. Heat was very good, we loved the layout of the home. Cons: I think it's important for guests to know there are about 25 stairs to the front door. We went in the winter and these steps were covered in ice and snow. I was with my 75 year old parents and was very nervous and sorry to take them to such an unsafe situation. I was not informed about this. Also, the wifi was not functional. It would work for 5 seconds and then you would be unable to connect. So, our cellular was poor as well. The TV was a smart tv that would have needed internet to work and did not have network tv either. So, you are really stuck here without entertainment or outside access to information. I think it's important guests knows that before booking. For the older folks in my party that are too old to snow play, they were really stuck inside the home with nothing to do all day. It was sad for them. And if there had been an emergency, unsafe stairs to leave.

Great location, bad heating system

We arrived 12/26 around 6pm. The property has no external lights on, which was a bit of a bummer. Location is great for Tahoe Donner resort. The issues we had with the unit were that some of the comforters needed washing (smelled of body odor) and the heating system . There is no forced air in the whole house, just a heated fireplace that only worked briefly on the first night and a radiator/heating vent in the kitchen. There were space heaters in the bedrooms but they did not do much so we ran them a lot out of fear of being cold. The radiator in the kitchen brought warmth to that area and heat rose to the loft but it was worrisome the whole time. The instructions for the heating system was also terrible and incomplete and when we called maintenance, we got lots of "you need to reset the heater" and "I don't know that house well" that was also very irritating. One should not have to be an HVAC tech to turn the heat on. It soured our stay for sure and now I now why it was still available in early December when I booked. There was also some strange things like no handrails on the MANY of the steps up to the unit, which felt dangerous. The hood for the stove also juts our farther than the stove so while cooking I was worried I was going to smack my head. It does not seem up to code in that sense. Bathrooms were good and plenty of hot water. This rental is cheaper per night so if this oddities don't bother you, it's a solid location.

That said, we apologize for the areas you found in need of some TLC and our local manager assured us that the porch lights are typically left on and they will check to ensure that the bulbs are working. The comforters will be checked as well and washed and we appreciate your feedback. We're also glad that you reported the issue with the fireplace so our team could take care of this during your visit. To clarify, there is no forced air and it's not a listed amenity for this home but there is a standard heater. Our local manager assured us that they will check the handrails and we thank you for your comments. We hope to have the opportunity to better impress you in the future and provide an amazing vacation experience.

Uncomfortable stained furniture

Many stairs to climb. Upstairs bedroom so crowded couldn’t move around. All beds and furniture uncomfortable and stained. All carpet was badly stained. Cleaning probably did the best they could. Outdoor deck furniture broken and completely uncomfortable. We left two days early -Just floor fans place in bad shape.

Nice, clean rental

We booked a 4 night stay so we ( grandparents) could be with daughter and granddaughter as the 12 year old competed in a major divisional climbing event in Truckee. We were told we might be able to an earlier check in if no one was there the day before us. No one was there before but we were told, “Sorry, no early check ins” so we waited in the chill for 3 hours in front of an empty house. When 4 o’clock came we entered and it was very clean n looked perfect. Took 6 hours to get heat up from 44 to 54 degrees and a very helpful man was sent to help start fireplace heater but no luck starting so he returned with 3 space heaters. They helped a lot. The rest of the 4 day stay was great temp and a very nice place. Would stay again, n just ask they start the warming early as only one heat source took 8-10 hours to get inside up to 65 degrees.

Needs Work - Heating System Not Adequate

We had constant trouble with the heating system. Pilot light had to be restarted several times and the fireplace would not stay on despite multiple adjustments to its thermostat. It was exceptionally cold our first two nights, so this was a real inconvenience. The main heating system for the house is one floor register on the first level. With this unit turning off constantly, it is hard to keep the house comfortable. The dishwasher is falling apart - front panels fell off whenever it was opened and the soap dispenser did not open when we used the dishwasher. Needs to be replaced. Vacasa management company was very responsive to my texts and calls, however, the remote phone support did not solve the problems. The heating system is a serious distractor to the comfort of the house. Otherwise, the unit is well equipped and clean other than some cobwebs in the light fixtures and ceiling corners. The sliding glass doors need cleaning so guests can enjoy the views. Kitchen drawers need cleaning - crumbs in the silverware drawers. Carpets and couches are stained. It's a very worn look, but clean and adequate.

We have contacted the local staff in regards to your comments and the heating at this home is functional. There is a gas fireplace and a working furnace. The furnace was recently inspected and everything was in good shape and working order. We also have this home scheduled for a cleaning. We hope to have an opportunity to best serve you in the future. Great Solo Thanksgiving Week

The house was great for our family of 4. The kitchen was totally set up and enabled us to cook our Thanksgiving dinner. The kids loved the loft for sleeping and playing. The deck full of snow was a great distraction as well. We entered easily and had incredibly quick responses for our few questions. The gas stove easily heated the entire house and was a fun visual. Great get away with our 6 and 9 year old.
