Front desk financial hassles.

The room was fine. Had a major hassle with the front desk. I booked and paid through hotels.com. The front desk demanded a 1500 rmb deposit - much more than I paid for the actual room online. I paid with a local Chinese bank card. I assumed it was just an expensive deposit. Then she said I would have to pay for the room again and would get any remaining deposit. I called Hotels.com who immediately called, faxed, and e-mailed the hotel, saying I didn't need to pay twice. The front desk "didn't receive anything"! Later I was asked to provide "proof" that I had paid, even though Hotels.com gave them a confirmation number that they had already sent my visa money to the hotel. They took photos of my booking receipt etc. More hassles ensued. (Hotels.com support was exceptional) Upon checkout, the front desk person calmly stated it was just a damage deposit and would be credited to my bank card account in 9-10 days.
