Very rustic and secluded - Roughing it with Goats
Publié le 15 mai 2024 sur HomeAwayThe directions to the farm could have been clearer but the way was hampered because of tornadoes having hit the area just the week before. I would have liked hearing from the owner the day of the storm when she knew of the downed trees and power lines and huge ruts in the driveway that would cause some vehicles much difficulty getting through, mine included.
The farm was rustic and shabby. The access to the cottage was a challenge in several ways. I was concerned if I was going to encounter poison ivy on the path to the front door and the several places where the ground and steps were uneven. The picture provided didn’t match the reality once we got into the cottage. There was a latch on the outside of the heavy door as well as inside. My wife was afraid that someone could lock us in the cabin from the outside and we would be trapped, since there were no windows or emergency egress options for us.
The bathroom had two steps from the main floor of the cottage and I don’t remember seeing anything in the description telling me of the stairs. I hate stairs, especially inside my bedroom to get to the bathroom.
The kitchen area was nice but the electric hot plate in the picture was replaced with an electric fry pan. The French press coffee maker would have been nicer if there were instructions for people like us who don’t use one on a regular basis and didn’t want to have to resort to YouTube videos on how to use it.
The bed was the one redeeming feature of the cottage.

Hi Gilbert. First, the tornado didn't hit the week before, three of them hit the day before. I messaged you that we were out of power and that we were having storms. While I certainly understand your frustration with the condition of the property after being hit by these storms, you were warned. You did not hear from me the day of the storm because we had no service. I was pretty dismayed by your lack of compassion for what happened to our city when you arrived. You did not read the directions, nor did you read the description of the property entirely. When you called me about getting here, I asked you specifically if you read the directions and you told me no, that you followed your GPS. We tell you not to follow your GPS but to follow our instructions. We also tell you to let us know when you turn off Highway 20 and we will meet you in the parking area. You called me from somewhere that you turned onto Highway 20, parked, and admonished me for not being there. We don't meet people on the highway. I'm not sure what steps are uneven as there's only one small step up to the little platform outside the door. There is no poison ivy, there is a sign telling you that that is our fall forage at the entrance. There is also a sign on the wall right above the French press telling you step by step how to use it. The induction burner was under the counter in a basket. We also tell you in our listing that the cottage is a storm shelter and there are no windows. I'm not sure why you booked when everything you complain about in the listing is laid out except for the single step up to the bathroom.
I'm very sorry that you thought I would lock you into the cottage during your stay. That's definitely not something I have ever thought of doing with any of my guests. But, I can tell you if those tornadoes would have hit while you were here, you would have appreciated the cottage.

Melissa was a wonderful host. Her farm was a lot of fun. The goats were entertaining, and Cam, her dog, was a sweetheart. The cottage had everything we needed. It was very clean. The biggest challenge was the drive in. We had two different rain storms that made the dirt roads more challenging, but we were able to navigate them without any real trouble. We wished we had more time to hike around the lake. We will save it for another time!

Farm Style Getaway
Publié le 28 avr. 2024 sur HomeAwayThis was exactly what I was looking for. Quiet time in the country away from the hustle and bustle. I enjoyed hearing the sounds of the roosters and goats and having time slow down for me for a few days. Melissa went over the house rules and gave me free rein to visit the goats whenever I wanted. She also took quite a bit of time the first day to answer all my questions about life with goats. I would like to have my own goats in the near future and Melissa gave me lots of good information to think about. My goal was to get a feel for what farm life might be while taking some time to decompress from my fast-paced city life. I wish I could have stayed longer, but even a few days worked magic to slow things down. My dog also had a blast. If you are looking for a rustic, authentic farm getaway, this is just the place!

Farm Stay
Publié le 10 mars 2024 sur HomeAwayGoat House farm is a peaceful working farm located on Lake Talquin adjacent to a Florida State Forest. Learn all about dairy goats or relax beside a campfire after a hike. Fresh eggs are available daily. My stay was during kidding season and I was able to meet the goats and help with their care. It was fun and educational.

Publié le 17 nov. 2023 sur HomeAwayThis was more than just a stay it was an adventure. I loved waking up to the roosters crowing. And hurried to get dressed so I could go spend time with the kitties and goats. I was in town to visit family but the highlight of my trip was the mornings spent with the goats. The cottage had a wonderful cabin feel and met all our needs. We will be staying here again!
