If you love nature, you will love The Canopy! We spotted a platypus on the first day and a cassowary on our way out! The birds are beautiful and the turtles plentiful. The staff were kind and helpful. They even built a fire for us on a cool day. Loved every minute of our time there.

Following our host on his bike along a winding track, our bungalow came into view, nestled in the rainforest. As the brochure promised, the veranda looked out into the forest and to the lazy-flowing creek below.
The setting is wonderful, very private and peaceful.
The bungalows are well appointed for self-sufficient extended stays - which is important as Yungaburra is a solid 25 min drive each way.
The wildlife is plentiful - we were visited by a variety of birds, brush tail possums and pademelon. The property’s walking trails led us to reaches of the creek where turtles were abundant.
BUT, the Canopy’s brochures are well out of date. Despite the fresh flowers, our bungalow felt neglected and in places was simply grotty. The place had an all-pervading smell of mildew, with patches on the walls. In the kitchen and bathroom, the mastic was peeling-away, the light fitting was full of dead insects, and the fans held what must have been several years’ worth of dust and grime. The BBQ was clean but not what you’d expect at a ‘luxury’ destination. Whilst there was a washer and dryer downstairs, the light didn’t work. The bed-side light had no globe. The bare nails in the (dirty) wall above the bed showed were once hung pictures. The used Band-Aid perched on top of the shower screen rather told the tale: cleaning and maintenance are not a priority here!
At almost $300 / night, today this property delivers only on its stunning location.

John, Thanks for the review, and the feedback.
We are working our way through restoring this old beauty back to its original charm.
The tropics are hard on timber buildings.
We have Just Installed Air Conditioning in the treehouses to help remove the mildew and reduce the mould. We are also in the process of re sanding and sealing all of the decks. Patching plaster and a fresh lick of paint.
Il'l get onto the light ASAP.
We are also in the process of redesigning all of our brochures. We removed the old compendiums as the information was from the stone age. We have a new one we are trying very hard to get finished and printed. Perhaps i will attach a PDF to the pre arrival emails in the mean-time.
We will work on improving the rest of the experience.
