Thank you so much for taking the time to write us a review. We hope you enjoyed your time with us. We will work on creating more lighting. We recently did a complete remodel in the bungalow you were staying so getting feedback on the lighting is helpful. Sorry about the lack of TV channels because there really isn't TV here hence the reason for the USB of movies which adly didn't do you much good such we don't have access to foreign movies.

Staff was great. Had an issue with consistant water but staff gave us workarounds. The facilities are very rustic

Thank you, Nathan, for being so understanding. It has been a while since the water company has had issues. We really try hard to make our guests comfortable it upsets us when issues are beyond our control. We greatly appreciate you both being so understanding. Thank you also for taking the time to write us a review.

A wonderful holiday spot on Taveuni island
Publié le 11 juin 2024 sur HotelsWe stayed 4 nights in Grand suite- cottage contains two double beds with two separate bathrooms and living/kitchen area. It has wonderful views. Snorkelling is just 3 mins from the beach, but only in high-mid tide conditions. Reef is very nice. Staff is very friendly. Mary has organised our land tours (Lavena coastal walk and waterfalls in Bouma National park- don't miss them and take a guide for coastal walk as we got a bit lost) as we did our water-based activities previously in dive resort. Food was the best on this island- both breakfasts and the dinners cooked by Mary. We strongly recommend to use this option for a dinner. Two small things are to mention: no dark blinds/curtains in the rooms, so it is quite bright to sleep after sunrise and the tea pot and pots for cooking are huge (it would be good to have a small cooking pot). On weekend, it was a loud music from the restaurant below on the beach, but finished around 11pm. Overall, we enjoyed our stay tremendously.

Thank you so much for writing such a lovely and comprehensive review of us. We really appreciate your feedback and strive towards our guests happiness to the best of our ability. We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay. Thanks for the suggestion about having curtains. I would imagine it was more of an issue for the second bedroom. We will get right on that.Aloha,Roberta

The resort is great and the host is beyond excellent. They take care of everything for you and they ensure that you have a good stay.
BEWARE! The worst thing about my stay was my interactions with the tour guide they had at the resort named Varun, of 'Wings & Fins Tours'. This person is a conman who will lie to you, overcharge you, and take your hard earned money. Varun(aka Baba) is known to lie to and overcharge couples and guests, sometimes causing them to cry. I've heard stories about him during my stay all with the same ending. I wish I had been warned about him before he got to me. He is known by the locals as a conman. If you want to enjoy your time in Taveuni, avoid this conman.

Bula Tony,Once again I apologize for the negative experience that you had with Varun. All tour guides are private contractors and whoever is available at the time is who we call. From there the guests can decide if they want to continue working with them for their tours or not. Thanks bringing it to our attention. it really is unfortunate. If we had one wish it would be that you hadn't rolled your review of Makaira with an outside private contractor. We strive towards making our guests happy while they are on the resort as you so nicely mentioned in the beginning of your review. We would greatly appreciate either removing your review because the rating you gave us is averaged out over all our ratings and a bad one adversely affects our ratings, reputation and our Bula spirit... Perhaps a more effective way of lodging your very valid complaint would be in the tour section on Trip Advisor or on his website. Having said all of the we all are very glad that you enjoyed your stay at Makaira at Makaira.. Aloha,Roberta

This is a small resort, with only 4 guest cottages (which they call bures), so there's a lot of privacy. There are expansive views of the ocean, including sunsets. The staff is very friendly, with a wonderful sense of humor, and we shared a lot of laughs. Our bure was cleaned every day. The dinners in their restaurant were delicious, with generous portions. Breakfast was included every morning, and activities were arranged for us.

The positives – peaceful perch on a steep hill above calm waters and perhaps ideal for avid snorkelers and divers, a lovely staff always wearing a smile, lots of space in the villa to spread out, and awesome banana pancakes. But, based on the Expedia listing, our expectations exceeded the reality. The amenities listed for this 4-unit bed & breakfast makes it sound luxurious with 3 pools, direct access to the beach, a restaurant with international cuisine and a spa. The reality: a plunge pool about the size of an oversized bathtub adjacent to 3 of the 4 villas. The pools aren’t very private and are not fenced, so a local German Shepard mutt used ours multiple times to cool off – we didn’t. To get to the narrow strip of sandy beach, you need to walk down a steep hill, on a little road, then walk a bit along the main road to find a break in the trees or steps down to the beach, which disappears during high tide, so check your tide charts. The “restaurant” is the breakfast room and only serves dinner (one option when we were there) when Mary is available to make it, and you ask for it, and there’s no alcohol available to order with you meal. We arrived on a Saturday late afternoon, and she wasn’t cooking that night, so the only nearby options were two bar/cafes along the main road, which are close but bring a flashlight for the return, since there are no lights on the little road, nor on the property. And, BTW, there isn’t a spa either, just someone who can come to your villa for

Bula Nancy,We are so sorry your expectations exceeded your reality. It is a pity because we try so hard. We refunded the nights you didn't stay. THis is not our usual policy but we want any visitor to Fiji to find what suits them best. We invited you to see if there were other mid-range resorts that suited you better. In your words we are the best mid-range accommodation in the area. I don't know if you noted this but all the high end resorts are also up on the hill along the Matei coastline to capture the magnificent ocean views with the same walk to the beach. From the accommodation you stayed in it is a 172 steps (not stairs) to 5 stairs leading to the beach. I would imagine on extremely high tides the water would come to the bottom of the stairs and not cover them Er built those stairs so it would be easy for guests to go to the pretty private beach below us. There is a gate on your deck to prevent any critters from enjoying the private plunge pool. In our pictures we show the plunge pools. Our guests really enjoy them. If they want to swim there is a whole ocean out-front. We also have a massage room and I can guarantee you that you would never have a better massage. We do have sensor lights on the property. In our confirmation letter one of the items we suggested for guests to bring is a flashlight since there are no street lights. Having said all of that I completely understand that the laid back island style of Taveuni is not for everyone who are more comfortable being in a hotel/resort in Nadi with all the conveniences at hand with Bars and restaurants opened until 10 at night and a big community swimming pool and lights everywhere. We use to have more lights but guests complained the light came them up at night and they love star gazing. I hope wherever you chose to stay in Nadi did meet your expectations. Happy guests is what Fiji is all about no matter where they choose to stay. .

Small property, only four houses, and everything is handled in a very personal and helpful way. Really enjoyed the hospitality (and also the massage). Highly recommended.
