Retreat and relaxation

Publié le 16 janv. 2020 sur HomeAway
Our extended family of 12, ages ranging from 17-82, experienced a fabulous few days in Guanacaste using this hidden gem as our home base. We were able to connect easily with the property owner as well as the property hostess before arriving if we had any questions. Each cabin and room had its own unique feel, with newly updated bathrooms, flat screen TVs, AC and free secure internet access. The blue and turquoise tiled pool with its soothing rock waterfall was perfect for the 5-7 young adults In our family who were ready to cool off after a day at the beach. The property is a short walk to Playa Potrero, and less than a 10 minute drive to Playa Flamingo. At the suggestion of the gracious and knowledgeable hostess, Paola, we spent a day at Playa Penca, and an evening in Playa Tamarindo as well. When we arrived we were greeted with typical Costa Rican friendliness in the form of a tall glass of watermelon mint drink and cool, refreshing hand towels. A Tico style breakfast was expertly prepared by Jogeilin and Janeth, and served buffet style each morning. It included fresh fruits, Gallo pinto, eggs, toast with a variety of tropical fruit jams, orange juice and coffee. If you are looking for relaxing get-away with easy access to a variety of options for daily entertainment, this is the place! Definitely ”pura vida”!

Still under construction

In another 6-12 months, this place is going to be fabulous. However, when we arrived, the general grounds and even our cabina was quite unfinished. Stay here only if you can manage the dust, dirt, a plethora of moths and insects, (temporary) stained lamp shades and window coverings, and lack of ventilation despite a large floor fan. There was no door or even a drape on the bathroom and the light in the bathroom was a lamp with bare bulb sitting on a make-shift shelf. We declined all offers for a cup of coffee and fruit because the kitchen was filthy. The manager was disorganized; It took awhile for him to find the scrap of paper on which he had written the password for the wifi, and he also could not find the proper key to our hut until the next morning. He was, however, friendly and tried to be helpful. On the other hand, the water pressure in the shower was great - be aware of uneven stones in the floor of the shower. The owner is off-site and it is doubtful that she was aware of the conditions. However, she communicated well and even helped our shuttle find an acceptable drop-off site close to the cabinas. Perhaps another person could tolerate these conditions, seeing the potential down the road, but we found the place not quite habitable and left after the first night. The location was great - a short walk to a good beach.
