Lovely property on beach that unfortunately adjoined a very active construction site
Posted Dec. 15, 2024 on HomeAwayCheck in went smoothly-soon found that hot water wasn't working, lights/fans, bathroom doors locked folks in vs out, some AC was freezing up and exterior keys did not work and the bottom of the dishwasher looked like a science project. Contacted the property manager and they had folks there the next day attending to the issues. Why wasn't this checked before a party of 11 checks in?
Staff during the stay was attentive, polite and responsive.
The property photos show a beautiful house next to treed area. In fact there is another house, in the very early stages of heavy construction, sharing a wall with the property.
Before 6AM, the hammering and metal cutting began. It intensified during the day including equipment with back up horns.I contacted the owner and he seemed genuinely unaware of this.
We moved from the master suite to a small bedroom off the pool on the other side. Family not so lucky.
The owner asked the property manager to see if the crews could keep the noise down. Noise would sometimes diminish some and then start again throughout the stay. We had to often leave the pool area to get away from it.
At around midpoint of our stay the owner offered to refund our money and have the property manager work with us to find other accommodations;this was not a good choice for a party of 11 with children, I advised we would tough it out but expected some adjustment. The offer conveyed by manager was frankly inadequate, with offensive terms relative to our review.

We believe potential guests deserve full context when reading reviews. We would like to address each point:
The construction project next door began 15 months ago and was scheduled to be completed before Christmas. The final stages of completions are usually quiet. When they unexpectedly made some changes to the property and you complained about the noise, we immediately offered you a FULL REFUND and assistance finding new accommodations on day 3 of your stay. If conditions were truly "unbearable," why decline this offer?
The maintenance "issues" were minor and immediately resolved. The hot water heater was turned up to meet your needs, the AC froze due to windows being left open by your group in the bedroom, the dishwasher required a plumber after being clogged with food-filled plates, and of the 6 sets of keys provided, only one needed replacing. There is no sharing of walls with the property next door.
The disrespect of our property was unacceptable. You damaged the barbeque, family room rug and couch along with the other items already mentioned. More concerning was the treatment of our staff. Our property manager is there to make sure everything in the house is in good working order. Not to be your personal servant. Our housekeeper was pressured to change her normal work hours, work on her scheduled day off and provide daily linen changes, despite our clear "light housekeeping" policy and knowing ahead of time that she was off on Sundays. Our handyman/landscaper is to maintain the house and yard. Not to be forced to do personal market errands without reimbursement for the items he purchased for you.
Your adult children apologized for your behavior and wished our staff good luck meeting your needs, and you openly discussed receiving discounts through complaints at other Costa Rican properties. We have no issue offering the proper discount if there is an issue with the property and if it is warranted.
Most troubling was your attempt to leverage a discount in exchange for a positive review or no review at all. While we accommodated your date change for cheaper flights and responded immediately to all maintenance needs, we won't succumb to such pressure tactics. We care greatly about our guests when they stay at our properties. We cannot control the weather, airlines, airports, restaurants hours, restaurant availability, or the twenty plus homes on our street, but for some reason,
you made all these items our responsibility. We can only control our property and staff.
Our properties maintain 150+ five-star reviews across our two Potrero homes because we care immensely, value genuine guest feedback and have exceptional staff. While we sincerely regret the construction disruption and had zero control over the extended timeline, we handled it professionally by offering immediate solutions.
Future guests can rest assured - we address legitimate concerns promptly and professionally, but we also protect our staff and the integrity of our review system.
And we will not be bullied into refunds if we do not think it’s deserved.

casa copa cabana, Pura Vida!
Posted Jul. 15, 2024 on HomeAwayThis home on Playa Potrero had everything we needed for our party of 13 adults and 4 boys, ages 5 to 8 to enjoy 8 days in Costa Rica. It was perfect to just walk outside the home and be on the beach, listening to the waves roll in was so relaxing. Greg the property manager was always quick to respond to emails and text messages.
The chef was friendly and provided meals that were delicious. The housekeeping staff Mercedes and Doris were great, always smiling and friendly, iphone translator made it easy to communicate with them. Jimmy, who oversaw property maintenance was quick to respond to a repair that was needed. We had an air conditioner that was leaking water, this was quickly repaired. Big thanks to Dervin the concierge. He was great taking care of our transportation and tours we requested. He was always available to answer our transportation and tour questions for our group. Our driver Jose was friendly, fun and informative. Overall, a great trip with many fun memories. On our last night my 5-year-old grandson came to me and said grandpa I don't want to go home, so I said don't worry we will be back. Until then pura vida!

Costa Rica Unplugged
Posted Jul. 9, 2024 on HomeAwayOur family of 8 adults and seven children thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Copacabana. The house was perfect for us with just the right number of rooms (especially with king-sized beds), a great kitchen, and wonderful outdoor patio and pool space that worked even in the rain. The housekeeping staff was very efficient and helpful and we hired the chef service for 5 days which was beyond our expectations of great food and presentation. we booked a tour to Rincon National Park and that was excellent as well. The road in front of the house and parking for more than 2 vehicles was a bit challenging, but we made it work. In all, a great family getaway in a friendly and beautiful country!!

Costa Rica 2024!
Posted Mar. 31, 2024 on HomeAwayWonderful property, perfect for our multi-generational family. Ana from Yellowfin Tours became our go between with staff, a big help and Google translate!
Jimmy house manager was right on any issues! Mercedes and her crew kept us cleaned up and the pool guy was great!
We used the recommended Chef for 3 nights, very good and very reasonable. We did rent the golf cars to get around town and to the restaurants and grocery. Sure beat the price of rental car we didn’t need, all our tours pick us up at the house!
We would rent again. Thanks for the memories!

Potrero Realities
Posted Feb. 12, 2024 on HomeAwayOverall condition of this property is… tired and needs a refresh. Mucho dirt, cobwebs viewable coming down stairs from bedrooms, door falling off kitchen cabinet, cooktop griddle not working, multiple underwater pool lights hanging off by wires, had to get door hinges oiled so they would stop waking people up at night, AC in bedroom sleeping 4 stopped working. Pictures show what looks like a hot tub. It has jets but no heat. Cook changed her mind and did not show up for a birthday meal. Wire in kitchen floor gives you a shock if you touch freezer door handle. Fountain in entry courtyard began to really stink.
Very difficult to communicate with property manager prior to arrival. Also difficult during our stay with intermittent unresponsiveness for days/weeks.
Cannot snorkel off the beach.
On the good notes, location is great. View is amazing. Best actual pool in the neighborhood, great ice machine! Would come back but only for the pool. Ocean was pretty good for younger kids but not for babies.

We would like to address each detail of your review. Our point of view is coming from the fact that we stayed at our property two weeks prior to your stay and saw nothing of what your review states.
Our housekeeper, Mercedes, does an incredible job keeping our home clean. You requested to have an extra cleaning lady (which we accommodated) to come in daily because of how you kept our home. We have never needed a second housekeeper for a group in the past five years of owning the property. You could have notified them if things weren’t up to your standards, and I am confident they would have fixed it.
Door falling off kitchen cabinet – The door was fixed the same day you reported this to Jimmy. The door was not broken before your arrival.
Cooktop griddle not working – You are correct with this complaint. The stove is by Viking, and unfortunately, parts and finding the right technician aren’t always easy to find in Costa Rica. The house does have a portable griddle for the guests.
Multiple underwater pool lights hanging off by wires - One light that was pulled out by someone in your group was fixed when your group was on a tour.
Had to get door hinges oiled so they would stop waking people up at night – After you told Jimmy, he had this done right away.
AC in bedroom 4 stopped working – When they came to fix this, it was found to be a user error. The person staying in the room did not know how to use the remote. The AC works perfectly.
Pictures show what looks like a hot tub. It has jets but no heat – It is not in our description that we have a hot tub. In tropical climates, it is normal for spas to not have heaters.
Cook changed her mind and did not show up for a birthday meal – You reached out to them the day before and she told you she was going to try to make it work and she couldn’t. The items you requested were not available, so she couldn’t prepare the meal. She never canceled on you. Our welcome letter suggests that meals are booked before your stay so the cooks have enough time to get the required items.
Wire in kitchen floor gives you a shock if you touch freezer door handle – We inspected the entire area with an electrical meter and could not find anything.
Fountain in entry courtyard began to really stink – No one has ever complained about this and none of our staff have noticed any smell from our fountains in the entire time of owning the property.
Very difficult to communicate with property manager before arrival – On our welcome letter, my husband and I encourage our guests to call or email us anytime. We did not get any phone calls or emails from you before or during your stay. My husband and I are available 24/7 if the property manager is unreachable.
Also difficult during our stay with intermittent unresponsiveness for days/weeks – You only stayed with us for 7 nights. As stated above, all the things that our staff accommodated and fixed for you right away, it is obvious how responsive our staff was.
Cannot snorkel off the beach – You can snorkel on the beach. Our family and guests do it all the time.
Ocean was pretty good for younger kids but not for babies – We do not recommend having babies near any ocean.
We have a great relationship with our guests and we always try to exceed all of their expectations. We feel that we have the best staff and property manager in Costa Rica. They are hardworking and take great pride in what they do at the property and for our guests. We are very fortunate to have them as part of our team and the number of guests that rebook with us year after year is a testament to this. We hope you find another home that will satisfy you if you ever choose to travel to Costa Rica again.

Great Location
Posted Jan. 31, 2024 on HomeAwayWe had a wonderful stay at Casa Copacabana. The property manager, entire staff and owner were wonderful, helpful and quick to respond to anything we needed. The house is beautiful and was fantastic space for our large extended family with children ranging from 13-3. We loved the pool, yard, beach and the Hemingway’s that’s so close by! We miss Costa Rica already!

Friends getaway
Posted Jan. 27, 2024 on HomeAwayOur group of 15 adults in our 50's & 60's stayed here in January 2024.
We absolutely loved this house!
Everyone had their own room and bathroom, plus there is an extra bathroom on the main floor and another one by the pool.
We liked having the outdoor kitchen with an extra fridge for drinks and the huge ice maker!
We loved hanging out by the pool during the day and down by the water for the sunsets.
Mercedes is the housekeeper and she is awesome! I've never seen someone work so hard and with a smile on her face. She was so helpful and even though we couldn't speak spanish and she didn't speak english, we communicated through her translation app or she would call Jimmy to help. If we ever had an issue (there were very few) or a question, we could call Jimmy, or message the homeowner and someone would respond within minutes.
As the planner of many group trips, I have had some disappointments over the years, but this house was everything I was hoping for, and dreaming of, for months.
The town of Potrero is very cute and everyone is very friendly. It's great to be able to walk to the little MerKdo or to dinner at one of several great places in town. We also rented golf carts for the week. We took those to Flamingo for dinner and shopping a few times and down to see the little town of Brasalito and Conchal.
It was a perfect vacation!
