Old uneven floors, very little service unless you asked and then put up with the excuses. Not at all pleasant to stay here. Feels like it is a aggravating pastime for reluctant owners. Avoid.

Thank you for your feedback William, as I told your wife, I appreciate it. As I also told both of you on the phone, our policy is clearly stated on the information sheet on the wall (the dark hallway gets much brighter when you turn on the light), and we are happy to provide services when we are aware you would like them. When I offered to return within the hour to address your concerns you said not to. I have also double checked our online presence and it too, indicates our housekeeping policy. I’m guessing you have never worked in the hospitality industry or you would know how difficult it is to anticipate the needs of people you have never met, and we work hard to try and provide a comfortable experience for all of our guests. Being available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week is hardly an "aggravating pastime." I find it interesting that you would comment on uneven floors, most people expect antique features in a 250 year old building. Going forward, perhaps you should avoid supporting small family owned businesses in rural locations and instead plan on staying in a chain hotel where everything is generic and you know exactly what to expect. I’m sure they need your business more than we do. Again, I do appreciate your feedback and have already made some adjustments, and I do hope you got some satisfaction by posting a review aimed at negatively impacting our small business even when we had already discussed your issues, which resulted from the fact that you did not read our clearly posted policies. Oh, and even after I read your review, I still offered to and have now mailed out (at my expense) the article of clothing you left, you should be receiving it in the next several days.

A quaint, lovely inn. Room was well-appointed with everything that we could possibly need. We stayed three nights in the Cambridge Room. Unfortunately we stayed on days that the restaurant was closed so we didn't get to have our dinners there. A continental breakfast was provided for us in our room as well as a well-appointed basket of snacks. We are hoping to retire to the area and we will be sure to return during our house hunting trips!

I travel a lot for work on my own in remote areas of NH & VT, so finding a safe and comfortable place to stay is very important to me. The staff at Birchwood were so kind and welcoming. My room was well prepared and very clean. The only thing that made me a little nervous was the back door in the room because I was unsure if the lock actually worked and only a thin see through drape covered the window. Just something to be cognizant of for young women traveling alone! Overall, I loved my stay and would definitely come again!

The room was well appointed and the bed was very comfortable. The location was perfect for our travel and the town was lovely and peaceful. It was so nice not to wake up to mowing and blowing. The tavern looked great but wasn't open the night we stayed but we will return and check it out. We had everything we needed and more. I almost forgot that it was also spotless.

The property and room was so pretty and down to earth. Nothing fancy but right up our alley. The dinners they serve were high class and very good.

Old Fashioned Inn feel

Wonderful ambiance at this historic inn! The owner and staff were friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean. So many little touches that made the stay homey. Loved having a basket of snacks and breakfast food provided to be able to eat in our room and relax in the morning. They accommodated my dietary restrictions that I had notified them of at time of making reservation. The interior decorating fit the historic building perfectly! Giving a feel of old, but with the comforts and cleanliness of new. Dinner in the restaurant was delightful with good food and live music (Thursday night).We slept well and enjoyed our stay.
