A Quirky Hotel with Bags of Charm & Heaps of Class

A lovely place to stay but you must be fit as a lot of stairs & no lift!
I would say the Golden Fleece is the best hotel in THIRSK & the classiest.

This is a nice hotel right in the middle of town. It is about two minutes from the James Herriot house and all the shops and restaurants. The only problem is there is no lift (elevator) and you will have to carry your own bags up the steep stairs to your room. (There are no rooms on the ground floor). The staff does not volunteer to help you with your bags, so be prepared to lug them up yourself. The breakfast was very nice (and they have a vegan option), plus there is a bar and restaurant on the premises. The parking is directly behind the property in a private lot. The staff were very friendly.

Check in staff not too helpful, not interested that iwas a lillle early basically told me to come back later there were no rooms available, without checking any recored.
When i actually returned to check in the chap was pretty helpful but pressures selling of evening meal put me off dining in,
On checking out reception male refused to issue me a receipt. when checking expedia no ability to get an invoice. Generally not a good front desk experience

Lovely position right on the market square. Had a lovely spacious room with a padded baywindow seat. Free parking was a real bonus

The hotel was good overall. 2 things that let it down, First was the service provided by the staff, they would benefit from some good customer service training. The second was the cost and portion size of the food in the restaurant. Although the quality of the food was good the cost for the size of the portion was too high.
