This place is great! James was exceedingly helpful in the weeks prior to our visit. Thank you James! The house is beautiful and the folks taking care of it are lovely. Everything worked well, with the exception of the WiFi which was slow and only really available in the kitchen — not a big deal for us though; we have phones for hot spots & it meant that we enjoyed the resort (and the cafe) for our early morning work calls. Being walkable to the resort’s main restaurant, cafe & tienda was great for us & our teenage kids. We paid the resort fee for use of the big pool, a few of the complimentary tours & the sand boarding. It was worth it for us to have the convenience (esp with teenagers…) but totally not necessary. The pool is beautiful and so well maintained. We spent HOURS in it, enjoying the gorgeous sunset & watching surfers. Quick tip: if you are a long boarder (or just getting started..) there’s a gorgeous chill surfing spot at Mag Rock. Taxi can get you to/from and you can rent longboards on site. They also do lessons; the same instructor I had for lessons at Rancho Santana was working there — if you do make it to Mag Rock, I recommend the less-fancy of the two rental spots; nice boards, people are chill and very knowledgeable.

Location, location, location. Villa Ohana probably has the best location at Rancho Santana. Up on a low hill, the house overlooks the surf break, tide pools, the sun set. The house is a minute walk from the Rancho Santana resort and Playa Santana. The pool is immaculate and delightful, and the star gazing is awesome. The grounds are gorgeous! The house itself is a tad tired, and a little dated, and there a few plumbing issues. The toilet didn’t flush in one bedroom’s bathroom, and one bathroom didn’t have hot water. Some locks don’t work, and there isn’t a whole lot of shade during the day. In the big picture, however, the villa served our group of adults really well, and we had a wonderful stay (I personally think this would be a hard house to stay in with children as all the bedrooms open to the outside, not to an interior). Housekeeper Gloria and caretaker David are really great. Gloria is a really good cook. For a very reasonable price, she made us some wonderful dinners(we did bring food with us). If you pay the resort fee of $17 a day per person, you can use the resort as if you are staying there(For example, you can sign up for bird watching tours, ebike rentals, or surf lessons, etc). At Villa Ohana, you are closer the main resort building than some of the resort condos. The resort is spectacular, and their beaches are gorgeous. The spa is absolutely wonderful, as were all the activities we participated in. They even have gorgeous pickleball courts.

Home, Yard, and Groundskeeper are the best. My kids will never want to stay anywhere else now.

Villa Ohana is unlike any other property in Nicaragua. It is not just in the perfect location, but it is so well set up with the layout of the property and the design of the home. Spacious yet intimate. Highly recommend this venue no matter how long you are staying in the Ranch!

Everything about this trip was amazing. The communication between the owner and us was great. Gloria and David are awesome and so friendly. Really hope to go back in the future. Highly recommend this place.

It has been an extraordinary stay at James’ house, I can just recommend to rent with James. If it wouldn’t be so far away from Europe, I’d definitely come here often. The house is having everything you can ask for and you would have in your own house as well. Best decision we’ve made on our 3 weeks trip to stay here for some days to relax. Paradise!
