I recently had the misfortune of booking an Airbnb through Expedia, and it was the worst travel experience I’ve ever had. From start to finish, everything that could go wrong did.
Upon arrival, the property was nothing like the pictures. It was dirty, rundown, and clearly neglected. The sheets were stained, the bathroom was filthy. The advertised amenities were either broken or nonexistent, leaving us with only basic necessities like hot water and functioning Wi-Fi.
Communication with the host was abysmal. They were unresponsive and unhelpful, making the situation even more frustrating. When I contacted Expedia for assistance, their customer service was slow to respond and ultimately unhelpful, leaving me to deal with the terrible conditions on my own.
The lack of proper vetting and quality control on Expedia’s part is astonishing. I’ve never had such a bad experience when booking directly through Airbnb’s app. From now on, I’ll be sticking to the Airbnb platform, where properties are accurately represented and hosts are held to higher standards.
Save yourself the headache and book directly through Airbnb. This experience was a total disaster and a complete waste of money.
