Twin Oaks Antique Cabin by Garden of the Gods in the Shawnee National Forest

Twin Oaks log cabin is an authentic antique log cabin, circa 1852. It was disassembled across the river at Fords Ferry in Crittenden county Kentucky and brought across the Ohio River ferry to Timber Ridge in 2013. The home is now nestled under a pair of twin Oaks that date back over 200 years. Behind the cabin, guests are able to relax in their private Tree Deck! Don't miss this great piece of history that dates back to President Lincolns time in Illinois. FIRE PLACE IS NON-OPERATIONAL.

The kitchen is equipped with an apartment size refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, toaster, coffee pot and all the dishes you'll need. We supply complimentary coffee, coffee filters, cream, sugar packets, salt, pepper, hand soap, dish soap, toilet paper, paper towels, firewood and camp chairs and of course, FREE WiFi.

*The fire place in Twin Oaks is NOT a working fire place, it is for looks only.*

Twin Oaks is affordably priced. This cabin is part of Timber Ridge Outpost and Cabins. All guests will check in at our ice cream and gift store, Garden of the Gods Outpost.

Located just minutes from the famous Garden of the Gods Wilderness area, Pounds Hollow lake and Rim Rock in the Shawnee National Forest, this little gem is right where you want to be. There is a pavilion on the property for all guests to enjoy with tether ball, horseshoes and bags (corn hole) games as well as a catch and release pond for fishing.

Guest will all check in at our store Garden of the Gods Outpost; an ice cream and gift shop located a couple miles from the main resort area.
Timber Ridge Outpost and Cabins is ranked #1 in our area on TripAdvisor with over 200 FIVE STAR reviews. We have been featured in Better Homes and Garden (2021), Washington Post (2021), Life and Style in southern Illinois (2016), Chicago magazine, AAA travel magazine, Midwest Traveler magazine, The Saturday Evening Post (August 2016), Chicago Parent Going Places magazine (2012 and 2014 and 2017), on Cruisin' Illinois with Julian Cruz (WGN-TV spring 2013) as well as a long list of various blogs, regional publications and more.

Come see what all the fuss is about and go home with memories to last a lifetime!

Aggressive animals will be asked to leave immediately.

All pets are required to be current on shots and must be protected with Flea and Tick medicine BEFORE you arrive. If you forget, we do have some for sale in the Outpost. All pets must be crated if left unattended in the units. No exceptions please! For your convenience, we do rent crates of all sizes for $8 per visit (not per night) but it is BYOB (Bring Your Own Blanket). Please call us in advance if you will need a crate in your unit. Relaxing Retreat
Very enjoyable stay ... perfect size for my husband and I ... everything we needed. We spent a lot of time on the cute front porch enjoying nature from our seat on the glider. LOVED the swing hanging from the oak tree branch (took me back to my childhood). The neighborhood cat came over for a visit. My husband saw a hummingbird every morning. Roasted hotdogs and made s'mores at the firepit. Cabin was clean. Only down side was the 2 queen beds were up in the loft ... the ladder/stairs were decent, but a little dicey to navigate when needing to use the restroom in the middle of the night. Luckily, the couch on the main level turned into a queen size bed ... and was fairly comfortable. Would definitely return here for another long weekend visit.

5th wedding anniversary
Had a wonderful time staying. We went for our 5 year wedding and was the perfect place to enjoy each other. Spent the day at Garden of the Gods and realized we live 2 hours from one of the most beautiful places on earth. Thank you for allowing us to stay. The cabin was very cozy and felt right at home.

Disappointed with Exterior Decks
We enjoyed our stay however we feel it’s a little pricy for the accommodations. Futon couch needs updating and a dresser should be included for those that choose not to live out of their suitcases. We also we’re not able to enjoy sitting outdoors as the patio decks and front porch are bug infested and in need power washing. The camp chairs we’re old and also bug infested and should be cleaned or replaced. Outside that it’s located right in the middle of Shawnee Forest and easy accessible to all attractions.

Nice Overall
Description could have been a little cleared on accessing the loft area. Not ideal for older people and/or pets. Over all, a nice, quiet place.

It was clean, quaint and quiet. Family centered. Lots to do and explore in the area. Be prepared to drive. But the driving is beautiful in itself. Exactly as advertised. Would stay again!

Exactly what we needed
This cabin was perfect - it's in wonderful condition, the property is quiet and in a lovely location, there was plenty of space for our family of 3 and medium sized dog, the fact that it's dog-friendly, the water pressure and temperature in the bathroom was ideal, the beds were comfortable, and check-in/check-out was simple. I'd definitely book this property again next time we're in the area.

Rustic cabin in great location
Our family enjoyed our stay at this rustic log cabin. Its location gave great access to hiking in Shawnee. At booking and check in, the property was advertised to have a fire place in the amenities on VRBO. Unfortunately, the fire place is bolted shut and not accessible to guests. We were very disappointed with this. We book spots based on fireplaces! Bring layers if visiting in cold weather as the main floor is quite chilly. Otherwise, a nice spot in a pretty location.

We loved the cabin. It was clean and very nice. My family stayed here (2 adults, kids-ages 11, 10, and 5). The kids loved the loft with the beds. It was a close drive to garden of the gods, rim rock and other fun hikes and activities. It was a nice getaway!

Like staying a night in a museum!
Very easy check-in and while you are there, get a Chicago dog! Extremely nice and helpful owners & Amy who helped us get checked in. The cabin is at the back of the "small neighborhood" of other cabins and TREEHOUSES! It's located pretty far away from the other cabins/treehouses. Inside the cabin, it's decorated with cool antiques and feels a lot bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside. It's perfectly "modernized" with fast Wi-Fi and a HD TV. You can tell that extra effort was made to make this place awesome. It's got 2 comfortable queen beds upstairs in the loft. Not a lot of room upstairs, but it's not too much of an issue, since you're staying in a really old cabin. Kitchen was fine and had everything we needed. We cooked all of our meals, both nights and had no issues. Bring your own food/drink or drive 30 min north to Harrisburg and there's a couple of national & regional stores. It's quietly peaceful and when it gets dark, it gets dark! Super close to Garden of the Gods. Stay here if it is available!

Wonderful Place To Stay
Our family of three plus small dog came here for a last minute spring break trip. Response time to our request and ongoing communications about check in were fast, friendly and accurate. Cabin was cozy and clean with plentiful amenities. Owners provided wood for outdoor fires, and had games/puzzles in the cabin and on the property. Proximity to Garden of the Gods was a huge plus. We had a teenager with us so the fast internet was great. And they are very dog friendly! Thank you for an excellent mini vacation!
