This was our second stay at Cataloupe Aqua, we had great memories of our balcony over the sea and delicious food at their restaurant. The standard of the rooms really varies, so if you book a standard room, you could wind up in a smallish room which abuts the highway, and although it can’t be seen from the windows or balcony, you’ll sure hear it! Sri Lankan drivers seem to drive with one hand on the steering wheel and the other on the horn! If you are not sensitive to noise, then it’s fine but I found it really unpleasant. The next morning we moved to a much larger room at the other end of the hotel and it was pure bliss. The windows and balcony are mere feet from the sea and the sound of the waves lapping was delicious!
The resort is 5 mins by tuk tuk to Unawatuna shops and restaurants. The beach outside is almost deserted and really clean with a good stretch of about 3.5km which provides an excellent running or walking track for those so inclined.
The food was as I remembered it - absolutely fabulous! We ate most of our meals by the pool and the variety, quality, presentation and flavours were amazing.
The general manager, the reception staff, restaurant staff and everyone we encountered, were really friendly and helpful. Except for the noise of the first night, we really enjoyed our stay
