Pappys place at Smoke Hole

Three bedroom two bath house. Built as a church parsonage in 1900. Beautiful original woodwork. The upstairs bath has the original claw foot tub great for long baths. The house has a kitchen, dining room, a cozy living room and a study with a pull out couch with a queen bed. The enclosed front porch has all types of games and area for kids to play. Pets welcome. If you are a fisherman, this is the place for you. You are one mile from the entrance to smoke hole. You are right at all the stocked streams and rivers from Monterey Virginia to Petersburg WV. You are only 7 miles from South Mill Creek Lake which has great trout fishing as well as bass, catfish, crappie and bluegill. If you are a rock climber, you can literally walk to climbing at Reeds Creek and are a few miles from climbing in smoke hole and if you want to climb seneca rocks, you are 40 minutes away. You are 40 minutes from Dolly Sods and Spruce knob and an hour from Black Water Falls. This house has lots of room for family gatherings and spending time with friends.

A total delight!
This house was wonderful and had so many cozy touches that made it feel like a real home. We were able to work out a discount that allowed me and my friends to go up for a long weekend and it ended up being over a winter cold snap! Temps were down to the single digits but the house was so warm, cozy, and already had a shovel and salt for the driveway. Our dogs loved resting in the sunroom with us and the few places we went to in neighboring towns were lovely. The TV apps don’t always work/crash but we think that is because they need to be updated :) The host was quickly responsive and kind, there were honeys and jellies set out for us when we arrived, and there were so many amazing BLANKETS and games in the house. We also made full use of the kitchen and cooked most of our meals. Bring olive oil or tea bags if you want your own, but otherwise there were tons of spices and coffee and condiments. We loved it and would easily return!

We've stayed at Pappies Place several times for a regular climbing trip to Reed's Creek and Smoke Hole. It's a fantastic location for access to climbing and Franklin. Pappies Place is clean, well-appointed and very comfortable. Danita is a wonderful host.

This was our fourth time staying at Pappies Place for a climbing trip to Reed's Creek/Smoke Hole and, as always, it was stellar. It's a well appointed and clean home, the beds are very comfortable and the house couldn't be closer to the Reed's Creek parking lot.

We came to attend a niece's wedding in Franklin. Our stay at Pappy's Place was just perfect. Lots of room, beautifully decorated, plenty of hot water, easy to find, beds were super comfy. WE loved the big dining room as we had family over for a big breakfast. Just loved the house and the decor.

Very Nice House
Loved the house and amenities. In the heart of trout fishing mecca for WV. Only drawback was the headlights all night coming through the window due to the house being in a sharp turn. Otherwise our stay was wonderful.

Great dual family get away!
This was a great home. We loved all the details of hospitality, making it feel like you were not just at a hotel, but instead, at grandmas house! But let me say, grandma has great taste in decor, comfort, linens, towels. This house is well stocked with everything you need, even sharp knives in the kitchen. We usually travel with our own kitchen supplies due to unknown stock, but we were able to use so many of Danita’s items, that when we return in the summer, we won’t need to bring our own! There was enough space for our two families to gather and share space and still let the little kids, big kids, and adults each have their own hang out spaces. There was ample bedding for every need. There were plenty of plush towels in each bathroom. The historic house has been renovated and you can enjoy the original hardwood floor charm as well as the updated appliances. The area is terrific for getting away from it all. We can’t wait to plan our trip this summer. Thank you!!

Great Christmas Decor!
My Family and Friends were very impressed with Pappy's Place. We truly enjoyed the coziness, holiday decor, and spacious home. We also loved that Danita provided many items that you may need. The location was great because it was close enough to get away from the city. The only thing I would say is that if you're looking to do an activity such as skiing, hiking, snow tubing, be prepared to drive for 40+ minutes. The closest skii resort is about an hour and 15 mins away. Seneca Rock is about 40 minutes away. But if you wanna just relax out in the mountains with your family, Pappy's Place is a great place to do so. Thank You Danita for your gracious hospitality.
