Frustrating Experience – Poor Communication and Lack of Support

I booked this accommodation through an insurance claim following a flood and had a frustrating experience with this host. Based on this ordeal, I will not book with them—or VRBO—again. Initially, the host was responsive to my questions, which gave me confidence in the booking. However, I was not allowed to view the property before reserving it for 56 nights. Upon arrival, the host was unresponsive for over two hours, leaving me unable to access the accommodation and questioning whether the booking was legitimate. When I finally got in touch with the host and entered the property, it did not fully match the listing. The furniture was different, the rooms lacked the "cozy" feel shown in photos, and the house was not prepared for guests—random items were lying around, and towels were still in the dryer. Although I had booked a 56-night stay, I did not feel comfortable staying on the property, for various reasons. When I requested to cancel the booking and receive a partial refund, the host refused. Even after VRBO attempted to mediate, the host declined to join a three-way call to address my concerns. Later, during the reservation period, the key fob was deactivated without notice, leaving me without access despite paying in full. I was only refunded the cleaning fee. While the host was initially communicative, their lack of cooperation and unwillingness to address issues made a difficult situation worse. I cannot recommend booking this property based on my experience.
