Great location and beautiful property
Publié le 4 avr. 2024 sur HomeAwayWe had a great time at Casa Juliana with our family party of 9. It is a quick walk to Playa Junquillal, which is a stunning beach. We enjoyed the pool and screened in porch. It is very private, but there are great restaurants very close to the house.
I would note that the upstairs loft bedroom is beautiful, with the attached living area, but it may not be appropriate for kids or folks with concerns about mobility. The bed requires climbing stairs and the stairs are fairly steep. This definitely did not detract from the beautiful property, but did require us to shuffle bedroom assignments!

Last minute trip
Publié le 26 mars 2024 sur HomeAwayWe booked last minute, therefore didn’t have a chance to communicate a whole lot before getting there. It’s a big place with plenty of bathrooms and has a nice setup for many people.
We didn’t realize right away that an email was sent with all there is to know about the property and the area. I looked hard for a book, but there wasn’t one. After getting settled in, we were sitting out in the screened porch (which is heavenly) and the alarm to the house sounded for reasons we still don’t know. I think we alerted the entire coast it was so loud! My kids hadn’t heard an alarm like that before and were completely freaked out. After disarming it, we couldn’t figure out how to reset it and were worried it would go off again. Our kids were scared!! We messaged the property manager right away, but it took 2 days before someone came to look at it. They just turned it off as well and we were fine, but with bars on the windows and instructions to use it, it left us uneasy.
We ended up enjoying the property, the many amazing restaurants surrounding it and the beaches were fantastic. We loved walking to the beach for sunsets and the privacy of our own pool. The monkeys in the tree out front was a huge bonus and being able to walk to restaurants made it easy.
The bedroom temp on the main level would only cool so much, so we slept without covers. Use bug spray even if you don’t think there are bugs biting. Lovely place and would return again.

Family vacation
Publié le 20 janv. 2024 sur HomeAwayNice place to stay if you want to relax and get away. Close to some amazing restaurants… our favorite was Tides. They have live music and great fish and chips. The best frozen drinks on our trip. The location is remote and it takes a while to get to attractions. Only downside

Great house with private pool
Publié le 7 déc. 2023 sur HomeAwayOur family of 4 adults and 3 kids stayed at Casa Juliana for 3 nights in mid- November. It fit all of us comfortably, with privacy. The enclosed outdoor living space was where we spent most time, eating meals or watching our kids swim. Yes, there were some ants and water leaking in the covered area, but this is not unexpected when travelling in Costa Rica. The pool is surrounded by vegetation and private. Our kids swam for hours a day. We loved the quaint little ‘town’, and that we were walking distance to the beach. There are some really great restaurants within walking distance and we were lucky enough to see a turtle laying eggs as we walked along the beach after dinner one night. Our host Georgina was also most pleasant, accommodating, and great with communication. Our family really loved our stay here and would happily return.

Beautiful home, beautiful location, plus great host.
Publié le 4 déc. 2023 sur HomeAwayFrom the moment we arrived at this property for a 3 day stay we were knew we had chosen the right location to start our family holiday. Our party had four adults and 3 children and there was plenty of space to house us all comfortably. Had everything we needed and more and it was apparent that great care had gone into cleaning. There is a spacious outdoor living area, where we enjoyed our meals. The pool is most inviting, surrounded by vegetation and privacy. The beds were comfortable. Location was great- not right on the beach but easy walking distance. The host Georgina is very pleasant, responsive and accommodating. We all very much enjoyed ourselves and would definitely return.

Devastatingly Disappointing Vacation
Publié le 31 oct. 2023 sur HomeAwayThis property shows an appalling lack of maintenance and updating. The interiors of the kitchen cabinets were covered with white furry mold. The inside glass panel on the microwave had active mold colonies growing in it. The dishes and glasses had dead insects and mold in them. The appliances were very old and worn out. There was no water pressure in the showers due to lime scale clogging the heads. Everyone had to wash their hair at the outdoor shower in order to rinse out the shampoo. The tile roof needs to be replaced and leaks every time it rains, which is about 3 inches per day so the floors are always wet and flooded. The shrubbery is overgrown with branches hanging in the pool. The Rancho barbeque grill has a huge ant colony living in it, making it unusable for cooking. The Jack and Jill bedrooms off the kitchen appear to be infested with fleas because the people that slept in those rooms are covered in red itchy welts. My dermatologist advises me the rash I am covered in is flea bite dermatitis. When we contacted the concierge a cleaning and landscaping crew was dispatched to the property and addressed most of the concerns. But as a paying guest I should not have had to give the property manager a punchlist of problems. Why wasn't the property cleaned, maintained and exterminated prior to our arrival? The surrounding town is a dump with no shopping available. The hotels and restaurants mentioned in the listing are closed so no food available. Worst trip ever!

As the owner of this property this was a really tough review to read - we want all guests to have a fantastic experience when traveling to Costa Rica and staying at Casa Juliana. We kindly ask that any guests considering this wonderful home and part of Costa Rica take some time to read the reviews before and after this guest, including other vacation rental platforms as well. Guests staying recently after this experience gave typical 5-star reviews and loved their stays.
Recognizing the value of reviews, we also felt the need to reply and defend the integrity of this process. There were several pieces here that were 100% our responsibility and have been addressed. But this guest chose to exaggerate several items and simply lie about others which is also troubling as owners who care so much about this property and our guests’ experiences.
This reservation was in October and travelers typically avoid September and October in Costa Rica since it is the heart of the rainy season, and many hotels and restaurants are closed. Our property manager and her crew did a deep clean two days before their arrival, including rewashing all linens/bedding. There was just one cabinet that had a little mold on the inside and the microwave inside door did as well and they missed it – 100% our fault. Our crew immediately returned to address those items and clean other areas again just to be safe.
There were absolutely no issues with cups and dishes that were also washed during the deep clean and there were definitely no flea issues. Noseeums are a problem in those two rainy months. As for the outdoor grill - that was cleaned before their stay and there were some ants outside - that can happen in a tropical climate. The roof gutters over the outdoor living area were clogged from the rainy season and that caused a leak in one spot in and that has been addressed. The shower heads are new and not an issue but every once in a while, the town of Junquillal has water pressure challenges – a problem in most towns in the country but still very rare.
Our property manager, Georgina, has managed this property (and others in the area) for more than 15 years and she takes great care of this home and our guests. She also provided many hours helping this group find restaurants that were open, provided transportation for horseback riding and directed them to a once-in-a-lifetime experience with turtles hatching in Ostional. Guests in this group were appreciative of all of her time and efforts and even apologized for this particular guest’s behavior who booked this home. If you read other reviews, you can see how often Georgina goes above and beyond to make our guests’ vacation the experience of a lifetime.
This home is a quintessential Costa Rica property that has been remodeled and we are constantly making positive changes. The interior was recently painted, it has beautiful tile and woodwork throughout, high end bedding, and a treasure of a private pool right off the expansive outdoor living area. There are great restaurant options behind the house at Guacamaya Lodge and across the street and within a few minutes walk or drive which is rare outside of busy towns in Costa Rica. There is also a well-stocked grocery store 1 mile away and bread/pastry, produce and fresh fish trucks that make stops at Casa Juliana.
Guests have access to everything they need while here as well, including a beautiful, uncrowded beach 300 meters away and everything to ensure a great vacation without the packing or purchase hassle, including family games, beach towels and umbrellas, snorkel gear, tennis equipment to use on the courts next door, and many other options.
Thank you for reading this far and we really hope to host you soon!

Wonderful house for kids and adults
Publié le 6 juin 2023 sur HomeAwayWe had a great stay at Casa Juliana at the end of May. From booking to staying there everything was smooth and communication with the property manager was outstanding. We received great recommendations for local restaurants, activities and an amazing chef who came to the house to cook for all 8 of us, 4 adults and 4 kids.
The house was well equipped with everything we needed and was a great place to hang out either by the pool or in the screened porch.
I definitely recommend for your next visit to Costa Rica!

Fabulous family retreat!
Publié le 26 avr. 2023 sur HomeAwayMy husband, myself and our family including grandchildren stayed at Casa Juliana for a weeks getaway. We were 7 adults and 2 children of 4 and 22 months. It is the ideal place for a family that would like to vacation together and have lots of space to enjoy. The in-the-ground pool was well appreciated especially after a day at the beach in the hot sun. Be aware that if young children are in your party, you must be vigilant as the pool is not fenced in. Someone came every second day to clean it. The Rancho BBQ area was a hit with the men. The screened in veranda is a very nice area to spend time in as well as around the pool. The cushions would need to be replaced however as they are somewhat worn and stained. The kitchen has everything you need to make your own meals. We did most of the cooking with groceries we bought in local marts. As we were arriving late on the first day, I asked to have some basic food items to be stocked for us before our arrival. It was there as promised. Be ready to deal with keys, keys for every door. Expect daily visits from local doggos and cats. They are friendly and would stay just for a few minutes and then be on their way. If you are a bird watcher, there are many birds that visit the trees and shrubs that surround the Villa. The beach which is just minutes walking distance from the villa is spectacular. My sons did boogie boarding & grandkids loved the waves. If you love the heat and laidback living you will really love Casa Juliana.

Perfect relaxing stay in Costa Rica
Publié le 15 déc. 2022 sur HomeAwayThis house is as the pictures show it to be. What a wonderful place to stay while on vacation in Costa Rica for our first time. Off the path of the busy Tamarindo area but close enough to go for a day trip. The beach is at most a slow 5 minute walk from the house. You can hear the waves at night when you're winding down, so relaxing! 2 great hotels with delicious food directly next door to house. Dont worry they are very quiet places. The house is perfectly equipped. Fully stocked kitchen (we had a chef come and he had everything required), very comfortable beds and bedding, floats for the pool, lots of nice big towels, beach chairs and beach umbrellas...I could go on and on. You will thoroughly enjoy this place and be able to relax and enjoy the amazing Costa Rica weather.

Perfect!
Publié le 13 juill. 2022 sur HomeAwayIf you are looking for a place away from the crowded tourist areas, this is it! While at the house, we spent most of our time in the pool and screened-in porch. We enjoyed long walks on the beach each morning and watched spectacular sunsets each night. We thoroughly enjoyed our tours through TPV and highly recommend having Lila cook dinner for you!
The beds were comfortable and the house had everything needed for an enjoyable and relaxing vacation. We would definitely stay again!
