Avis Casa Juliana: Renovated Oceanview Villa, Playa Junquillal, Guanacast

As the owner of this property this was a really tough review to read - we want all guests to have a fantastic experience when traveling to Costa Rica and staying at Casa Juliana. We kindly ask that any guests considering this wonderful home and part of Costa Rica take some time to read the reviews before and after this guest, including other vacation rental platforms as well. Guests staying recently after this experience gave typical 5-star reviews and loved their stays. Recognizing the value of reviews, we also felt the need to reply and defend the integrity of this process. There were several pieces here that were 100% our responsibility and have been addressed. But this guest chose to exaggerate several items and simply lie about others which is also troubling as owners who care so much about this property and our guests’ experiences. This reservation was in October and travelers typically avoid September and October in Costa Rica since it is the heart of the rainy season, and many hotels and restaurants are closed. Our property manager and her crew did a deep clean two days before their arrival, including rewashing all linens/bedding. There was just one cabinet that had a little mold on the inside and the microwave inside door did as well and they missed it – 100% our fault. Our crew immediately returned to address those items and clean other areas again just to be safe. There were absolutely no issues with cups and dishes that were also washed during the deep clean and there were definitely no flea issues. Noseeums are a problem in those two rainy months. As for the outdoor grill - that was cleaned before their stay and there were some ants outside - that can happen in a tropical climate. The roof gutters over the outdoor living area were clogged from the rainy season and that caused a leak in one spot in and that has been addressed. The shower heads are new and not an issue but every once in a while, the town of Junquillal has water pressure challenges – a problem in most towns in the country but still very rare. Our property manager, Georgina, has managed this property (and others in the area) for more than 15 years and she takes great care of this home and our guests. She also provided many hours helping this group find restaurants that were open, provided transportation for horseback riding and directed them to a once-in-a-lifetime experience with turtles hatching in Ostional. Guests in this group were appreciative of all of her time and efforts and even apologized for this particular guest’s behavior who booked this home. If you read other reviews, you can see how often Georgina goes above and beyond to make our guests’ vacation the experience of a lifetime. This home is a quintessential Costa Rica property that has been remodeled and we are constantly making positive changes. The interior was recently painted, it has beautiful tile and woodwork throughout, high end bedding, and a treasure of a private pool right off the expansive outdoor living area. There are great restaurant options behind the house at Guacamaya Lodge and across the street and within a few minutes walk or drive which is rare outside of busy towns in Costa Rica. There is also a well-stocked grocery store 1 mile away and bread/pastry, produce and fresh fish trucks that make stops at Casa Juliana. Guests have access to everything they need while here as well, including a beautiful, uncrowded beach 300 meters away and everything to ensure a great vacation without the packing or purchase hassle, including family games, beach towels and umbrellas, snorkel gear, tennis equipment to use on the courts next door, and many other options.
