Not worth the stay

Overall the property was clean, furniture is outdated, but clean. Pool area was nice. Outside of property was definitely not the same as what the pictures depict. Landscaping was dead and there were dead bugs stuck all over the entrances. The biggest issue is that the air conditioning was not cooling the house. We arrived at 10pm and the inside temp was 83. We set the thermostat to 72 and there was no cold air blowing from the vents. So we decided to stay in a hotel for the night, came back the next morning at 9am and the inside temp only went down to 79. We made several attempts to discuss this with the owner, but the owner did not believe us, even though we had pictures and videos and called us liars several times. The owner was rude and unwilling to resolve the problem. We've been renting from VRBO for over 5 years and have never had such a bad experience. I'm sure the owner is going to say something negative about us in a response, but my review is based on facts.

Dear Michelle, We are always doing our best to support our guests. Same was in your case. These are the facts: 1. The A/C unit was serviced two days before your arrival and everything is working fine. If you wanted to sleep at a hotel it was your choice. Our house manual describes that the house temperature is set at 78F-80F when not occupied and you simply needed to set the Thermostat to desired temperature and wait until it will do its job. 2. Our cleaners arrived to the house in the morning and found the thermostat set at 79F not at 72F. 3. We have sent cleaners to the house to explain to you how to operate the thermostat. You were not found at the house on two occasions. These calls to send cleaners to the house two times were not free for us as we paid the cleaners to attend the house on demand. 4.After the two unsuccessful attempts to find you at the house we tried to call you to arrange for our cleaning crew to meet up with you there to help you. You were not willing to listen, were rude and abrupt with my wife and threatened my wife with complaints and reports. We asked you to send a picture to demonstrate if there was an issue so we could communicate to our HVAC service tech who was there two days before, but you have not provided to us any. 5. After the call I sent you VRBO message trying to arrange for you to meet up with our cleaning crew at the house, and you ignored it. We are wishing you nice travels in the future elsewhere.

Property is in a great location to downtown Venice, shopping,restaurants, and beaches. We really enjoyed the Lanai and heated pool. Had a great time watching the birds and wild life.

Another Lovely Stay

This was our second stay at this property. We had a great time! The property had all the necessities and then some and the location is very convenient. Whenever we were not at the beach we enjoyed the pool and bird watching. Absolutely will plan to book again in the future.

Disappointed

We were very disappointed to find out that this house was not a 3 bedroom but really a 2 bedroom house! The 3rd room is not a bedroom ( does not have a closet) but is instead a den that is connected to the master bedroom with a sliding glass door to separate the two rooms! This actual room doesn’t have a bed but has an old sleeper sofa with a very uncomfortable thin mattress on it and didn’t have bed sheets for it so we had to improvised!! The blinds on the slinging door are missing/broken so no real privacy there either! Not to mention that our bed sheets had stains on them! They were clean but had big red stains that didn’t come out after washing them. The sliding glass door in the kitchen is literally missing the handle that we actually found in one the kitchen cabinet drawer. Light bulbs on lamps were out and I didn’t feel like it was my responsibility to take care of it! This property is to me not well kept as described on the website. I think someone should check the maintenance of the house before guests arrive to make sure that everything is working and in order!

Dear James. Occasionally we host guests like you, who does not read the listing details, disregards the house rules and complaints a lot about everything. You reservation was for four guests and you have not mentioned that you intended to use all six sleeping arrangements, however the set of sheets for the sleeper sofa was n the green dresser bottom drawer in the room. In any case you could have contacted me if you had questions. We have pictures that were taken by the cleaning company before your arrival. They check blinds, lights and they never make beds with stained linens, we are using the same cleaning company for 8 years now. You have not communicated to us about anything during your stay. If you had a concern why you did not contact me? This is our house and we maintain it accordingly. We have all the pictures that prove you wrong. The house is listed as two bedroom with an additional sleeper sofa, and if you had read the full description and looked at the pictures you would notice that right away. We are wishing you nice travels somewhere else as we would not invite you to stay here again. You are not only provided an untrue review but also caused delays with our house cleaning as you had not checked out on time and our cleaning team had been waiting at the door for your party to leave.

House is in a nice location

The house was Ok. The furniture is old and the house is in need of repairs. TV was spotty which frustrated my husband. The orange plastic fence around the pool killed the vibe. It just needs comfy furniture that will fit a group of four and good internet and cable. Just a little TLC and it would be a great place.

Dear Kristyn, thank you for your review. The house is very comfortable for our family and it has posturepedic Sealy mattresses in all beds except the sleeper sofa. There is designer leather couch in the main room and three designer chairs. If you are looking for a "modern" IKEA style place to stay, and came to Florida to watch the TV instead of enjoying the wildlife and wonderful sunsets, in this case your family likely should reserve a hotel with services and cable TV. We do not use the cable TV for many reasons and we do not recommend it to others. We do provide aerial antenna, Local Channels and Netflix and FiOS fiber optic internet, perhaps you could not figure it out, but you could have called me and ask questions. I am disappointed that you did not do that. As it goes for the orange net - there are 80% of homes in the area that were severely damaged by the Hurricane Ian. Our house lost the pool enclosure and it had to be removed, and the fence put up, as per the building code. However the pool is serviced weekly and it is fully usable. The listing is clearly showing the pool with the orange net around it. We are wishing you nice future travels. Kind regards, Gregg

I discussed our concerns with the owner and VRBO support when we refused to check-in upon arrival. There was hurricane damage to the lanai. The pool was filthy. I would not recommend staying at this property.

You did not stay at our house. This is our home and we share it with guests when we are not using it. We deal with all maintenance issues as they may arise in a quick and efficient manner and as soon as we are informed by our guests. The pictures of the house are posted on the listing page, including the picture with the removed pool enclosure. It appears that you missed it or simply did not pay attention to the pictures. It appears that you preferred to stay elsewhere and used the situation so as it benefited you. You were not eligible for a refund but we fully refunded your payments, since we prefer just happy guests to stay at the house. Unfortunately I am not able to insert a photo into this this message to show the actual wonderful condition of the pool to others.

Clean and comfortable

The home is older but was clean and comfortable and the owner was very responsive when needed. Venice is a great place and this house is close to everything. Unfortunately hurricane Ian destroyed the pool cage and it's awaiting installation which friends have told me takes months. It's no fault of the owner but that took away from the outdoor enjoyment. Some new lounge chairs for the lanai would also be helpful .

House was clean and had up to date appliances. The property was set on a river with many varieties of birds which was enjoyable. Neighborhood was old and some what run down. All and all enjoyed our stay

Pool issues

We selected this property primarily based on the pool and the photos of the pool vista. When we arrived we found the pool heater out of commission and the pool shelter removed. Refunding the heating fees does not fairly compensate for what we felt was an impaired property. We completely understand the shelter was hurricane related damage. But there has been plenty of time to amend the listing to note pool is not as depicted in photos.

Dear Leo, We have been informing all guests about hurricane damage and removal of the damaged aluminum parts to make sure the pool is good and safe to use. You had been informed about the pool enclosure as well. The pool equipment is working hard every day and it may malfunction as any other, unfortunately it happened during your stay and we were prepared to deal with it in a most appropriate manner. Regarding the pool heater - as you know it had been repaired and is functional again, despite that we have compensated you for the inconvenience by refunding you the cost of heating.
