Romantic Tree Cottage in the Rainforest

No detail overlooked! A serene custom-designed studio retreat in the treetops of Volcano, Hawaii. Tree cottage includes a beautiful kitchen, spacious bathroom with indoor/outdoor shower, private driveway, top-level lanai off the living area for viewing the unique local flora. Interior is mid-century tropical with pristine hardwood floors, hanging rattan chair for daydreams, queen-sized bed, and bistro table setting provides an intimate setting for morning coffee, or evening dinner for two.

Relax in the tranquility of the ohi'a and hapu'u trees native to this unique part of the world, while enjoying your favorite creature comforts.

The tree cottage is 300 sq. feet, custom-designed and adorned by the host/owner providing a more personal experience for the guests. Amenities such as an easy to access entrance, beautiful decor, a well-appointed kitchen, consistent hot water, electricity, fluffy towels, ceiling fan and comfy bed make a luxurious take on the treehouse experience we all dream of experiencing.

Coffee, tea, and oatmeal are also provided for morning foraging. :)

The living area has glass french doors that welcome you in to the cottage. Once inside you'll be inspired by the beautiful pitched pine ceiling, large windows and 8" sliding glass doors providing a perfect vantage into the trees. At this height you can see the colorful birds flitting from tree to tree and the clouds rolling in from the coast.

The kitchen has hardwood flooring, custom cabinetry and quartz counter tops. It comes complete with a four-burner gas stove, small fridge, full-sized sink, coffee maker, and toaster oven.

The bathroom has a lovely tiled shower with pebble floor and a rain shower head for an incredible experience. The big windows, flower-shaped vessel sink, quartz counter tops, tiled floor, and fluffy bath linens provided give the bathroom the feeling of a beautiful, relaxing spa.

The outdoor garden is spotted with new, young plants but still evokes a feeling of privacy, peace, tranquility, and a change of pace from everyday life.

House water is potable and chemical-free. Piped in from the outdoor rain catchment system, the water is purified with a UV system and filtered.

The tree cottage was built by a local contractor, engaging local businesses for the materials. Shannon's hands-on management (even cleaning between guests!) and pride in ownership for the property results in a tree cottage guests can feel comfortable staying in.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay near Volcanos National Park. The property is very private but with easy access to the park. We stayed 4 nights. Perfect if want to spend a few days hiking and enjoying nature. We had a few minor concerns after we checked in and Shannon was vert quick to respond. Recommend!

We loved our stay here and wished we could have stayed longer. The location was great as it was next to volcano national park and not to far from Hilo. It was a quiet accept for the occasional chicken. Everything was as expected and check in was easy.

The Tree Cottage in the Rainforest was such a unique and beautiful stay! The property is a bit tucked away with lots of foliage, which added to the rainforest charm. It’s about a 7-minute drive to Volcanoes National Park, making it a great location for exploring.There aren’t many restaurants nearby, and most eateries close by 6 PM, but the cottage has a full kitchen for convenience. There are a few food trucks, but I’d recommend planning meals accordingly. The microwave is tucked under the counter, so keep an eye out for it. The home has all the amenities you could need.My husband put it best: "It’s nice—definitely a vacation rental, not a full-time home, since it’s mostly glass with curtains for privacy. But that just means you get amazing views of the lush rainforest right from inside." A peaceful, one-of-a-kind experience!

Everything was great! Cleanliness, location, communication with host, etc made this an easy 5 star review. If you are a couple or a solo traveler looking to stay in Volcano, I would recommend staying here. Especially if you plan on hiking in the National Park, it’s only a quick drive away from the park entrance.

If at night time you notice a red glow then Kīlauea is erupting again, a short drive to the National Volcano Park will give you the most amazing sights.

The cottage was thoughtfully appointed and had everything needed for a relaxing night. You can hear the birds sing and see the moon winking through the trees. Beautiful, comfortable and unique. Definitely recommend!

Nice simple place
Unit clean and included all amenities needed for a few nights stay. Did not have a microwave to more conveniently reheat food. We initially arrived in the dark and there was no lightning to more easily navigate the property. For those two reasons I gave 4 stars. Location was close to the Volcano National Park and made it very easy to go back and forth from the park.

Very nice property close to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. We hiked for several days within the park and this was a great place to rest up afterwards. Make sure you do ALL grocery shopping elsewhere though, a loaf of bread, package of sliced deli meat and a bag of chips came to over $35 at the small market in town.

Relaxing Volcano Stay
Quiet and secluded, we had a great experience staying in this rain forest setting in Volcano. If you are wanting to stay away from large crowds and just enjoy the beauty of the island this is the perfect spot. Not a lot of frills, but the bed is incredibly comfortable with loads of pillows. We stayed in October and it did get pretty cold, but the host did have extra blankets and a space heater available. Also had a drying mat for water shoes and a dehumidifier, which made a big difference in the air quality in the space (as someone with asthma, I appreciate it!!) Only things I wish we had: a luggage stand, and some more hooks in the bathroom. Not a lot of food around, and be mindful that the few that are around may be closed on sun/mon. So be prepared to bring some food with you to fill in those gaps in food availability. Highly recommend having a drive around the area and checking out the food trucks on the side of the road, had some good coffee and Thai food.
