Some beautiful parts, but not worth the cost.
Overall the weekend was lovely. The staff are what made it.
The main seating area is beautiful but can be draughty. The glass doors at the front door don’t really work and let a lot of cold in.
The dining area is a bit of a disappointment atmosphere wise. The lighting too bright, the chairs are awful. It should be more like the red seating area which seemed to be kept for private functions. There’s a huge stove which was barely flickering, the music was also terrible. A lot of simple changes could be made to make this area more inviting and in keeping with a bit of luxury you’d expect at this price point.
The food in Cast Iron was good, but Vardon was definitely better!
The cocktails were great but the wine list limited.
We booked a suite as a treat, but this was the biggest disappointment. It was very ‘tired’ looking with frayed curtains and pelmets, stains on the walls. Any suite we’ve ever stayed at always had a couch, but not in our room and it was big enough to accommodate it.
Overall the place is beautiful, along with the gardens, and as previously stated the staff are excellent and what make it, but overall we don’t feel it was worth the money we spent.
