Don’t stay in the summer
Publié le 10 juill. 2024 sur HotelsThis is a quaint little historical boarding house in DC. With that comes the creaky old-home issues which I accepted with the choice I made to stay. However, I was placed on the top floor in July and dealt with excessive heat in the room. Staff don’t work overnight, but each night coming back to my room after a full day of meetings and I hike up 4 floors was met with stagnant air in a too-warm room and no one to contact for help in addressing the lack of air. The overhead fan also didn’t work one of the nights and I had to ask a colleague to stay in their room with them.

We are a 12-bedroom/Bathroom Bed and Breakfast and do not operate 24/7 like hotels.The guest stayed in room 403, (we do not assign rooms, you'll get the room you choose when making your reservation), the room is located on the 3rd floor, as indicated on our website and reservation page.The guest emailed us at 12:30 am on her 3rd night to report that the fan wasn't working. We responded the next morning, informing her that we would check the fan. Upon inspection, the fan was found to be functioning properly; the issue was that the guest was unfamiliar with the remote control. Despite having a full house, with all guests in town for the same convention at the Washington Hilton, no one else complained about the house or bedroom temperatures being too warm. We have central air and ceiling fans in each room.While I believe the guest had an issue, she should have approached us the next morning during breakfast, I served her breakfast twice. We always appreciate it when guests inform us of any issues during their stay, allowing us to hopefully resolve them before their departure. We also recommend keeping bedroom windows closed, especially during periods of high heat.We interact with our guests daily during breakfast and observe them coming and going from 8 am to 7 pm. We welcome their questions and feedback. Additionally, we have a note on the entrance table inviting them to call or text anytime in case of emergency.

We trust our guests to respect our Self-Check-in policy which begins at 4 pm. Our guests receive plenty of information about that.In this case, the guest arrived between 10:30 am and 11:30 am and simply occupied the bedroom. The door was open because we were still cleaning/disinfecting the rooms and the house in general. Being a self-check-in situation, the guest assumed no one would be around, but we are in the facility 24/7. Unfortunately, we had to ask the guest to leave the bedroom and wait downstairs in the TV/Parlor room, where guests wait or store their luggage. In general, our guests are respectful of our policies, and it's unfortunate that this happened.
