Ocean View is a must-stay homestay for anyone looking to experience true Fiji time.
As a solo traveler, the room was perfect â clean, comfortable, and peaceful. Vil and Paola took amazing care of me and always made sure I was comfortable. While the food was a bit pricey, the portions were massive as long as you are an adventurous eater â depite this I never finished a full plate!
I was the only traveler on the island during my stay, which pushed me out of my comfort zone and led to some of the most meaningful experiences of my trip. I met many locals, learned about village life, and truly felt welcomed. I highly recommend attending the Sunday church service and joining the village-wide community lunch â itâs a beautiful way to connect and experience a full day of rest in true Fiji style.
Thereâs an incredible reef just outside the school and a beautiful sandbar just a short walk and swim from the homestay. I also went handline fishing and snorkeling with sharks â both included in a single 50 FJD trip that was well worth it.
I also recommend buying souvenirs from them â the prices were much better than anything I saw in Nadi, and you know the money supports the village directly, not a scam.
If youâre after adventure, culture, and connection, Ocean View should be at the top of your list.
6/5 stars!
Very warm welcome off the boat from Bill and Paula, our hosts. The accommodation was not as expected or as described on the website. This was a surprise and a disapointment. Very basic accommodation and facilities shared with the extended family.
The homestay was situated on a hill with an uneven, steep path to it. The view from the deck, where food was served, was magnificent, overlooking the bay and the nearby Waya island. The beach near the village was disappointing, as there was much rubbish on it. Other nearby beaches were much, much cleaner and lovely to swim in. The village was in three parts along the coast. We had a warm welcome from many villagers, and learnt much about traditional Fijian village life. We appreciated this, and it included kava ceremony with the chief, visit to the kindygarten and the church. The singing was lovely. The boat that transports you to the island and that is used for activities is small, and difficult if you are nervous and get sea sick. After the initial shock we enjoyed our 12 days there. The cuisine is traditional Fijian - cassava, yam, plantain, fish, chicken, fruit etc cooked over a 3 stone fire. And very plentiful, and catered for vegetarians as well. If you are looking for a resort holiday, then this is not the place to come, but if you want to immerse yourself in traditional island life, this is it!
