Josh was great at communicating the address, the house code and the way to got to the bedroom in the home, as well as other details regarding parking and house rules. We arrived about 10:30 and got into the house easily, but were greeted with the smell of marijuana. We went directly to our bedroom and shut the door. The smell wasn't bad in the bedroom. I guess I didn't read well enough, as I was thinking that the bear bedroom had a shower/bath, but it was just a toilet and sink. The showers were shared with all the guests. The house was a quiet place to stay.

Hi, thanks for your review. Yes, you are the 2nd person to mention the smell of marijuana on that date. I'm sorry that another guest did not follow the house rules. It's the first time we've had that happen (the smell of marijuana getting in the house), and I apologize. Please rest assured that it is not a normal occurence. Yes, the ensuite bathroom in the Bear room is a 2 piece (sink and toilet), and there are 2 other bathrooms in the house that both offer the use of a shower. Thanks again for your feedback.

It was a residential house with your own room, shared kitchen and bathroom, and street parking. Entry was keyless, using a code texted to you, and the bedroom was small but cosy.
I did notice the bathroom sink/shower drained slowly, but that was a minor concern.
However I was disappointed that when I returned that night, I could smell pot as I entered. So some tenants were ignoring the no smoking inside rule, or left the back door open when they smoked on the deck. Fortunately it wasn't detectable in my room, so just a little annoying.

Home like experience with well stocked kitchen and living room. Residential area within walking distance of downtown. Would be happy to stay here again

It’s confusing reading the reviews because it seems this listing is for two different properties. We were in house in a residential neighborhood. We reserved a room with a private bathroom. It wasn’t a bathroom, it was a half bath with no shower or bathtub. Maybe there was confusion between American English and Canadian English? I was expecting to be able to bathe. As two single women, we didn’t feel comfortable showering in the shared bathroom when the other guests were men we didn’t know.
The house was clean, had enough blankets, and the communication with the owner was quick.

Hi, I'm sorry that the accomodation wasn't exactly what you were expecting. I'm not sure what you mean by "it seems this listing is for two different properties". This listing is for a house in a residential neighbourhood and no listing for Wild North Bed & Rest should give any other impression. As for the ensuite bathroom, yes is an ensuite (2 piece-toilet and sink) and the shower is in the shared bathroom. Unfortunately expedia doesn't allow me to clarify that on the site (I have tried), and I always explain this in detail in advance when given the chance. The shared bathroom is only used by 1 person at a time, and there is a lock on the door. I'm sorry that you didn't feel comfortable using it.

I doubt that I would have rented if i knew that it was a boarding house with 5 guests.

The description shows clearly that this is a house (not a hotel) with several rooms and shared spaces, I'm sorry if that came as a surprise to you. This property was fine but not what I expected because it is not a B&B, it’s a hostel. It has small rooms and shared bathrooms (as advertised) although the bear room did have its own personal bathroom which I appreciated. The common areas were not super clean but not super dirty either. I like places to be super clean so this was not up to par for me personally. The neighborhood seemed very safe and was easy to get to.

Hi, we're sorry that the cleanliness was not "up to par" for you. Cleaning is done daily, but there are a few shared spaces so expectations should be set accordingly, and our prices are also significantly more economical than many other options mainly because of our unique setup. We offer guest access to a kitchen, dining room, laundry, and 2 living rooms and feel that there is a lot of value in those amenities.You are right, we are not a B&B. We no longer offer breakfast and have changed our name accordingly. I'm sorry if you expected a B&B, as we don't operate or advertise as a B&B. That being said, we are absolutely NOT a hostel as you have claimed. Hostels are usually defined by having bunk beds, shared bathrooms with several stalls, and can usually accommodate large amounts of guests. I stayed at many hostels in my youth, as hostel are often geared towards youth (which our establishment is not), and none of the hostels I have ever stayed at are in a house (like our establishment). So just to be clear, we are much more like a B&B then a hostel.

Made this booking by mistake—and couldn’t be happier. Gracious host, nice home, room to spread out trip planning materials and very comfortable.
