Some distance from the main road and no neighboor next to my room so it was quiet and I slept well. The room need to be renovated. Everything is dark and smell bad. Althoug smoking is forbidden since many years, the old smoke smell has not been removed. Armchair, A/C, bedspread and curtains are very old and shall be changed. Lighting is insufficient.

Disappointing old-school motel off of I-80
Publié le 15 août 2024 sur HotelsI don't like to complain and I know that running a non-chain hotel is not an easy business, but this was a very disappointing stay. We decided to stay at Crest Country Inn in Williamsburg based on the stellar reviews I read on Hotel.com (9.2/10 Wonderful!). The many 9/10 and 10/10 reviews don't bear any resemblance to our experience. We arrived at about 5pm and checked in. Our two rooms were fairly clean but both had terrible odors (I think the smell is mildew coming from the bathtub drains). We opened the windows wide and went out to dinner, hoping the smells would dissipate. No such luck. There was a sign on the motel office saying that it closed at 7:30 pm and would reopen the next day at 10am, so there was no way to try to change rooms (and with no on-site staff at night, what is one supposed to do if something needs attention at night?). The deadbolt on one of the rooms wouldn't lock, which was a bit disconcerting. The rooms had "themes" -- mine was "A Day at the Beach," and our other room was sort of a Maine moose vibe--cute, I suppose, but combined with the overwhelming smell it just seemed like a long ignored old-school motel from 1962. The views of the rolling Iowa hills were beautiful at sunset (and do enjoy downtown W'burg's lovely park!). Note that the motel's east side looks out over a huge Williamsburg outlet mall, and the gorgeous west side view is quite noisy with traffic on I-80 early in the morning. We won't be staying here again.

"Anonymous" please move on now to your next target. Nothing you say is true. We do not close at 7:30pm and we do not open at 10:00 am ??? Our staff works so hard here. Anonymous you have done enough damage here with your false review, move on to someone else... MOVE ON

The first room we were given the refrigerator had been off for so long that the ice had melted in the freezer and there were dead nats or something in the water! The replacement room they gave us there were cob webs on the ceiling with dead flys in them and it smelled like someone had been smoking in the room. The night clerk was very unfriendly amd not much help. The morning person had a mich better attitude amd was very friendly amd helpful.

Jeni, we totally expected this "poor" review from you. We knew 4 days prior to your arrival and check-in that you would leave a bad review, let us explain why we felt that. You called us many days prior wanting to change your one bed/small(less expensive) room reservation through Expedia to something larger with 2 beds for you and your Mom for no extra charge for Friday night. We kindly told you that you must go through Expedia and do a modification for a request for something else, it would not be a free upgrade, you did not contact Expedia. Instead, you arrived and of course wanted something else/bigger that you did not pay for. The clerk was very kind and patient with you, this clerk is especially great with this type of thing, the clerk is very noncombative and calm, the clerk moved you from room to room on a very busy night but you were not happy. We really tried to make you happy.

Clean, comfortable, and exquisitely decorated
Publié le 2 août 2024 sur HotelsVery clean, rooms decorated at 5-star hotel levels. Very comfortable bed, thanks to a firm bed plus a memory foam mattress topper. Gracious and hospitable hostess/owner. There is a lovely large lawn available with Adirondack chairs and (I think) a picnic table under some shade trees.
The hotel itself is an older basic building - one story, outside room entrances that open to parking - thus 4 stars instead of 5. Also, the breakfast was very basic Continental style - but with real brewed coffee. There is a McDonalds close by; I would get coffee at the hotel and food at McD's.
