Lovely home, Unsafe location
Publié le 3 janv. 2023 sur HomeAwayI had a trip planned to the area and was excited to find this charming antebellum home available. The day prior to my arrival, I reached out to the property manager for check-in instructions. I contacted them via the VRBO app and left a voicemail. I did not receive a response until the following morning. Upon arriving to the neighborhood, it was evident this was not in a family friendly area. There were individuals on either side of the home openly drinking from brown paper bags, congregated on the street. The front door to the home was unlocked. The check in instructions for the room were unclear and so it took awhile to gain access to the room. The home was as pictured. The room was clean and well appointed. Unfortunately, the door did not have a dead bolt lock, which is an expected feature. As a single female traveling alone, I did not feel safe. I reached out again to the property manager with my concerns. The response I received a day later, was that the rental description stated the home was in a typical neighborhood and in a multicultural neighborhood. I am not sure how the safety concerns I expressed had anything to do with the culture of the neighborhood?? I double checked the description, it did not mention the surrounding location being a concern nor did it mention the area being multicultural or typical. The property manager would not work with me in terms of a partial refund or any other consolation. Interestingly, the rental description now reads typical and multicultural... Again I am unsure how those terms have anything to do with the safety concerns of this area.

Good afternoon Ms. Platt, we would like to thank you again for visiting with us.
I'm sorry you felt unsafe; however, the description of the area I gave did state, ". . . Typical and multicultural . . ." this statement was added so guest that might have a problem with typical and multicultural can book elsewhere. I nor the description elaborates on the safety in direct details, but I will express to you again that the area is safe. There has not been any disturbances and/or problems, of any kind, at the location of this home.
Although I cannot say 100% nothing could happen that is just not logical. Things happen everywhere, but nothing has happened here. Also Yazoo Police department is directly across the street (.2 miles) away.
We sympathize with your safety concerns, however, our home is safe. Your visit was during the holiday season and we can't be held responsible for FAMILIES in the neighborhood having holiday gatherings. This is NOT the norm.
The front door is locked at all times unless another guest is arriving/departing and/or bringing items (groceries, etc.) inside; thus, needing to make multiple trips from their vehicle to their unit.
A partial refund was not offered due to the contract rules in regards to Refunds and Cancellations and also because Stuckey Heights do not condone extortion/blackmail of any kind. You stated that if I would give you half of your money back you would not mentioned in your review about a guy across the street drinking out of a brown paper bag. We do not buy reviews here. All of our reviews are real guest that have voiced their real opinions.
In addition, you were allowed to stay in the unit with a guest that you did not include on your registration.
Again, we're sorry you didn't feel safe. Our home and each unit, therein, is safe. Although that particular unit was not equipped with a deadbolt lock it has one of the most secure and highest quality self-check-in secure keypad locks available on the market.
Also, I provided you with detailed instructions on how to gain access to your unit. Which, at this point, we found out about the second guest. You did not have any issue getting into your unit your unauthorized guest did. They called about not being able to get into the unit. Detailed instruction had already been giving to you not them.
Nonetheless, we will update our units to include deadbolts for our future guests. Hope we have addressed all of your concerns.
