Senge og badeværelse var ok, men gulvtæpper overalt var beskidte og lugtende. Generelt var det hele meget nedslidt. Fint med pubben nedenunder. Morgenmaden var god.

Beautiful hostel close to Dartmoor National Park. Not easy to find but that implies it is located in a quiet area

I was looking forward to an overnight stay at The Walkhampton but I'm afraid it was disappointing. Our room was very small and I was terrified that I would fall through the floor at any moment as the whole floor was moving up and down by a couple of inches. It was difficult to use the toilet as the ensuite was tiny and badly designed. The carpets were really dirty and desperately needed a deep clean.
The handrail going up the stairs was really, really dirty....sticky and grimy. Very unpleasant.
We ate in the pub downstairs and the food was good and reasonably priced.
Staff were helpful but our TV didn't work and even after a member of staff came to fix it, it still didn't work. My husband ended up sorting it out.
Breakfast was poor and didn't resemble the description given. No potatoes and no pudding. Items given were of a good quality though. Juice and milk were very limited which was irritating. We waited a long time for tea and coffee and had to ask for toast.
Breakfast is a big part of an overnight stay and it was disappointing.
Overall I'd say this place needs better organisation and a more disciplined cleaning regime. I didn't expect 5 star luxury but when you take someone's money you have to provide a certain standard and this place unfortunately falls short.

Food fine, rooms pretty bad.
Publié le 24 juill. 2024 sur HotelsAppeared cosy/old style on pictures but not so in real life. Pub and food were fine, but not the rooms. Beds were clean and comfortable. But everything else was in pretty bad shape. Spiderweb in every corner (and spiders). Although bathrooms appeared recently renovated, showers in both rented rooms did not work. We mentioned it to staff the first day but no action was taken. Our impression was that everything pub-related (ground floor) was fine, and staff very friendly/helpful. But the “hotel” related service (first floor rooms) left much to be desired. Might actually be back some day for a meal, but would definitly not book a room again.

Not so good for elderly with back problems.

Not suitable for elderly or anyone with mobility problems as stairs very difficult. Bedroom 2 large but every thing very low to floor. staff friendly and food good.
