Beautiful hotel. Outstanding staff & kitchen

Publié le 14 août 2016 sur Expedia
5 days with 2 small children. Staff wonderful, very warm hearted and helpful, going extra mile. The rooms are quite simplistic but nice, with patio in front of each . Everything is on the beach, feet always in the sand. The atmosphere is very relaxed and laid back. Huge and beautiful main area / house, all open to the breeze. Since this is a bit away from village (15 min walk), not many people in beach (hardly any). Big nice pool. The lunch / dinner is really good. A few details to make this a Full 5/5 experience given the price tag of the hotel: everythjng is saltwater (shower, pool, etc). Fresh water provided for brushing teeth, but was à surprise. Seems standard in many hotels here. maybe some more breakfast variation (ok choice, but repetitive after 5 days). Some minor maintenance in rooms ( towel hangers, plug covers, flush keeps flowing )

Not value for money

Publié le 7 nov. 2023 sur Hotels
We stayed here for 7 nights and paid £1102 for this, which was not good value for money. The staff are all incredibly friendly and amenable. However, the bungalows are tired and run-down, the door handle was nearly coming off to our room, the taps are severely lime-scaled and wall switches with holes in them? We had to ask for hand soap, toilet roll and we had to keep asking for a towel. The towels and bedding were stained. There is no mattress protector. The breakfast was awful; stale cereal and bread, the only meat was a processed hot dog and the coffee was instant powdered, which is a huge shame because Tanzania produces coffee. There was a pod machine for the coffee, but this was an additional $3. We decided not to eat there for any other meal. The location is ok, you have to walk at least 15 to 20 minutes to get to another restaurant or bar, but it felt safe to do so along the beach. While the beach is beautiful in Paje, the beach here was very sea-weedy, so you cannot enter the water here. It was definitely not value for money and was disappointed when I contacted hotels.com for help on arranging another hotel and they advised it was non-refundable.

Book elsewhere

Publié le 18 oct. 2022 sur Hotels
This is a tired somewhat rundown resort. It seems apparent to us that the manager is not willing to put any money into maintenance or any updates on this property. The food choices for breakfast were on such a shoestring budget it was almost insulting. Literally no cheese or dairy and the only meat were hot dog wieners. There was a sign on the Buffay one morning advertising chicken samosas but when I asked about them the server said “no… We didn’t make them“. The dartboard didn’t have any darts and the foosball table was so unbalanced you couldn’t play on it. All the cushions were dirty and worn out on all of the patio furniture and the towels were so rough they almost scratched your skin rather than drying it. The location feels somewhat isolated compared to other parts of the beach of Pagé. I highly recommend staying somewhere else closer to some action where you can watch kite surfers and multiple restaurants and bars are around. Lastly the bar at this resort was a joke. The wine was terrible the beer offerings sparse and the fridge was not cold enough to chill any of the beverages. The only saving grace was the second unit we stayed in had an ocean view and a nice outside swing. The first bungalow we were put in was pretty awful. The toilet was cracked, the bathroom dirty and twice we had to call staff to exterminate ants which were crawling all over the walls. Look elsewhere is my suggestion.

Hakuna Majiwe Lodge in Zanzibar - inferior value for money. Worn down rooms, suffering from long-term lack of maintenance. Paint is hanging in bathroom, leakage from toilets. Air-con in room hardly working. No power back-up when power outage. Facilities highly disapointing. Defintively way below what you expect for USD 225 per night in Zanzibar. Postives: good location on Padje beach and friendly personel.
