One of the most iconic journeys of the world is to drive the Great Ocean Road to the 12 Apostles, a must see natural wonder 4hrs from Melbourne. What makes this journey so special is this region's ever changing diverse landscapes, native wildlife encounters, cliff top views of the ocean and mother nature's limestone creations at the end of the road.
The Great Ocean Road embraces 300 km of Victoria’s dramatic coastline from Torquay to Portland. There are no words to express the beauty of the Great Ocean Road Tour. See wild koalas & kangaroos, whilst checking out the magnificent surf beaches. Walk amongst the ancient ferns deep within the Otway's rainforest before arriving in the afternoon to witness the marvel of these gigantic limestone stacks known as the 12 Apostles located in Port Campbell National Park.
Itinerary
Your Great Ocean Road Tour departs Melbourne before 8am bound for the beauty of Victoria's west coast. Your first stop will be in Anglesea the gateway to the Great Ocean Road. Afterwards we make our way to the Memorial Arch where the Great Ocean Road sign proudly arches the road and makes for a fantastic photo.
From here the Great Ocean Road is carved out of the cliffs elevated high above the ocean where the views are spectacular. You'll make your way to our spot some wild koalas residing in the Manna Gumtrees literally hanging over the Great Ocean Road. At times these wild Koalas can be quite close to the ground, close enough for you to get a selfie!
Continue along the Great Ocean Road to the coastal hamlet of Apollo Bay the half way point of our journey. Here you will have plenty of time to purchase lunch, ice cream and possibly some souvenirs to remember your journey by.
From Apollo Bay, the Great Ocean Road makes it's way inland over the Otway National Park and into an ancient rainforest wonderland. We stop at Maits Rest Rainforest to explore the best example of what Australia was like when dinosaurs roamed millions of years ago.
In the mid afternoon you will arrive to the feature highlight of the day, the incredible coastlines of the 12 Apostles and Port Campbell National Park. Have time to wander the cliff top board walks to soak up every angle of the awe inspiring 12 Apostles limestone formations. Hear the harrowing stories of the Loch Ard ship wreck only to heighten the exhilaration of walking into this spectacular gorge down to the beach.
