A stronghold of the fearsome O’Flaherty Gaelic lords, the perfectly preserved 15th Century Aughnanure Castel is poised on a rocky outcrop on the Drimneen river and near the shores of Lock Corrib. You will learn about the Tower-Houses typical of this region, and the power and influence held by the Gaelic lords during Medieval times as well as the role played by the Castle during the Historic ‘Cromwellian blockade’ and the unfortunate O’Flaherty’s, as you enjoy a stroll in the impressive setting or choose to enter the Castle itself.

Standing over 220 metres high and running for 12km this stunning coastal attraction is a wonderful walk & observatory for the thousands of seabirds who make it their home. The first observatory was constructed here in 1835 and today this site attracts over 1.5 million visitors annually because of its incredible views of the twelve Bens, the Aran Islands and the Atlantic Ocean. There is a wonderful walkway along the cliffs to follow, and we also take time for the Visitor Centre
