What you can expect

Leaving Tirana at 09:00 we head towards the south-east of Albania. After crossing the border with Macedonia, the first city we meet is Struga, which takes its name from an ancient local legend. Ohrid is located near Struga, on the shores of the lake of the same name, for centuries it was the place where different cultures met and succeeded. Founded by the ancient Illyrian and Greek tribes, it was under Roman, Byzantine, Bulgarian, Turkish, Serbian rule, until the recent independent Republic of northern Macedonia.

Located on the hills of the city, the fortress of Samuil, built under the rule of the Bulgarian tsar Samuil in the tenth century, is believed to have incorporated the settlements of an ancient fortification of the fourth century BC, built by Philip II.

On the cliff, above the beach of Kaneo, overlooking the lake of Ohrid, the church dedicated to John of Patmos, the writer of the Apocalypse, who is considered by some to be the Apostle John. Visit the city centre and the old bazaar, where we will see the typical houses of Ohrid. Most of the city is paved with stone, a reason why it was initially called Lyhnidas from the Latin language (precious stone that emits light). After the visits of Ohrid we will go to the Monastery of Sveti Naum, where San Naum is buried, a holy place where people from all over the world come to practice their religion. The monastery complex was part of the Albanian border from 1912 to 1925. Leaving the Macedonian border, we head towards Albania to stop in Tushemisht. Visit of the town, different from most Albanian villages and similar to Ohrid with the predominant Orthodox religion. Departure for the return to Tirana.
