What you can expect

In spite of the relative close proximity to the Vientiane city, joining in this Mekong cycling and kayaking tour, you will definitely feel like you are a million miles away. Let’s enjoy a great day out getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre and immerse in nature.

Pickup at your hotel for the cycling out of the city. After a short ride, the countryside gradually appears and you will continue onwards cycling along the Mekong River where you can admire the magnificent views across the river and into neighbouring Thailand. After a few KM it is time you turned off and head towards Ban Tong pong village.

Carrying onwards, you will head through some dirt tracks which take you through rice fields and forest. The trail can get a little muddy and sandy along the way but really take you away from everything to be immersed in nature. Along the way, depending on the time of the year, you can also see the local people tending to their rice paddy fields. The trail will take you back to a tarmac road. You will head along the road for a while until arriving at Tad Moun waterfall which is a common spot for the local people from Vientiane. The beautiful waterfall itself can actually entirely dry up during the dry season however it is still worth visiting to watch the different rock formations.

From the waterfall, you will ride a bike along the main road which is freshly paved and very smooth yet relatively prevented from traffic. You will begin with a slight ascend which from there the remainder of the cycling brings you on a steady downhill until reaching the village of Ban Mai which is located on the banks of the Mekong. Here, you will make the transition from land to water as you kayak down the Mekong River back to Vientiane.

After having lunch and spending some time relaxing, you will don your lifejackets and board your kayaks for the journey downstream back to Vientiane. Along the way, you will definitely admire the amazing scenery on both sides of the river when heading along the border between Laos and Thailand, of course staying on the Lao side during the entirety.

You will carry onwards kayaking down the Mekong until coming back in Vientiane. The trip will end just outside the centre of the city next to a riverside bar. Enjoying an ice cool beer next to the river is the perfect way to end the day. From here you will be collected via lorry and taken back to your hotel in afternoon.
