What you can expect

Step back in time to the Golden Age of Hawaii's sugar industry at the historic Kilohana Plantation. Savour a delectable feast of tropical dishes and be carried away by traditional Polynesian song and dance on a journey through the history and mythology of the islands. After you're greeted with a lei and a glass of bubbly, admire the elegant mansion and sprawling grounds of Kilohana Plantation - the restored manor is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Take a seat at the Plantation House Restaurant for a refined 4-course meal featuring seasonal produce harvested right on the 60-acre estate.

After dessert, you're led by torchlight to the Luau Pavilion to premium seating, where hula dancers, fire knife dancers, fire poi balls and drummers beating the rhythms of the South Pacific take you from Tahiti to the islands of Hawaii on an unforgettable theatrical voyage under the stars.

My wife and I loved the experience, but were we to do again we would not go with the Plantation Owners Experience package but instead the standard Luau. While the food was great, we did miss out on the other activities the other guests experienced. We really just had a meal of limited selection, one free glass of champagne, and then had to kill 30 minutes at the plantation house waiting to be walked over before the luau began. If you’re a young couple, do the regular experience. If you have a family, do the regular experience. The Plantation Owners Experience felt best suited to couples who maybe have been to a luau before, or that don’t really want the large group buffet type evening. You also get much longer time with the open bar in the regular experience. Both are great, just be sure you know going in one is more fun and the other (POE) is a much more subdued, “formal” affair. The show however was incredible. The cast was amazing and super talented!

Attended the last night we were in Kauai and this is the perfect way to round out a week long trip in paradise. The food at the Gaylord was fabulous with generous refills of champagne. We were seated at the very front row for the performance. The show was fabulous and very entertaining. Would attend again next time we visit Kauai.
