What you can expect
Olive Oil
We start the day learning everything we need to know about olive oil. Most of the island of Kefalonia is covered with olive trees. It is the most important product here both for our economy and our cuisine. At Marina s Oil Mill, we will learn how olive oil is made in the modern method. We will also learn the varying methods of production and quality levels. Have you ever wondered what Extra Virgin Olive Oil means? You’ll find out! In their tasting area, we’ll get a chance to sample different oils and other Kefalonian products.
1 hour is enough to learn about olive oil and to add it in your daily diet for ever
Honey
In 2 hours, you'll see what a honeybee experiences over the course of a lifetime, and what a beekeeper experiences over the course of a day.
Suit Up
After donning a provided beekeeper suit, you'll step inside an apiary, where Eleni or Thanassis will open active hives . Bring a camera if you'd like a picture of you with frame in hand.
Look Inside a Glass Observation Hive
While you gaze at bees inside a glass observation hive, your guide will share interesting facts about the bee's life.
Have a Taste.Visit the laboratory. Depending on the season and the hives' productivity, you might help extract and taste fresh honey, or collect fresh royal jam or pollen. If the bees come up empty that day, you'll attend a tasting of local honeys instead. At the end We will treat you a snack “of the beeman” with Herbal Tea, Fresh Juice, Coffee, Local Wine, Walnut Pie, Pasteli, Cheese Pie.
Wine Tasting - Wine Museum
A special site that houses a large and extraordinary artefact collection of historical value and aesthetics.
The exhibits are mainly from the original winery and the owners family pre-war home. Some items have been donated by family and friends, in recognition of the Wine Museum as the appropriate site to showcase these items in the manner they deserve. Other items have been found abandoned, throughout Kefalonia,
The Museum’s smaller exhibits include a collection of old household utensils, decor items, and photographs. Special mention is due to several old suitcases and steamer trunks which have made several transatlantic crossings in the first part of the 20th century.
Most Wine Museum exhibits are 200-300 years old.
Tours of the Winery and Museum, available for groups and independent visitors, include a guided walk through the wine producing facilities and wine tasting in the wine exhibit section of the Museum. During August and September, peaks of the grape harvest and wine-producing season, visitors are treated to a live, on-site view of the process. In non-producing months, visitors are given a detailed description of the wine-making process as they are guided through the production facilities.
Wine tasting takes place inside the Museum, where the wine exhibit and a point of sales for all winery products are housed.
Pick up is from your hotel or villa or Cruise Ships Terminal
